    remover.exe 1.004.0122 http://www.majorgeeks.com/remover.exe_d4638.html

Removal tool detects and removes many worms, trojans and backdoors: Mytob, Mydoom, Beagle, Netsky, Sasser, Blaster Zafi, Mabutu, Startpage and meny others.

First thing it wants to do, even before it installs, is to want to go to the Web.
Zone Alarm detects its attempt. I have denied it, at present.
Is it just a short program to take you to the Web, and you run the main program from there?. Bazza

No, but if it was a bad program, I'm sure it wouldn't be here.

When that program connected through your internet connection, I'm sure it was checking to see if it was the latest version.

In fact, I'm running it right now... :)

Plus it is a stand-alone program, not an installer.

Thanks, theefool.:) I know that nasties very rarely escape the eyes of MA and all the others involved in vetting programs. It worried me that it launched straight away trying to get on the Web without any warning, or explanation.:p Let us know what you think of the program. I have a nasty I have to track down, and eliminate. Bazza

Hey there. It has a pretty good rating: Rating: 4.43 (23 votes)

I just downloaded the program, turned off system restore and ran it.
Immediately my firewall went off but I allowed it access. Less than one minute into the scan it reported I had a virus. c\windows2\system32\svkp.sys
(Backdoor.Surila) to be exact and asked if it could delete it. It continued the scan for a few minutes, stopped and told me to run my anti-virus.

I just looked up Backdoor.Surila virus and WOW! What a mean virus.
Among other things, Surila changes lines in the hosts file in order to try and block antivirus database updates and access to antivirus vendors' websites.
No wonder my norton wouldn't update!

"Surila installs a proxy server on a random port to process HTTP and SMTP traffic. The infected machine is now open for illegal use, in a spammer bot network, for instance."

I hope it really got rid of it!

Back today, instead. Ran the program and it didn't find anything.
I still think i have a nasty hiding somewhere as Spybot S & D takes forever to run, and it shouldn't. I have uninstalled and re-installed various versions of Spybot S&D, and they all take forever to run.
    CWSearch doesn't find anything either.
Gonna have to run HiJackThis and see what it turns up. Bazza

Just because you run it and it doesn't find anything, doesn't mean your system is clean. It is just a small program that searches for the most common infections. That is just about it.

I know i am just saying that since i use it, it never picks up anything. Cause i run other tools before i run this one.

    But, of course! :)

Your typical antivirus program should/may help you.

The program in question, is just a tool to check to see if you have the most common issues in hand, so to speak.

I probably didn't help you in this situation....

Suggest that you alter the sequence in which you run your programs occasionally. It is amazing, the difference that they report sometimes. You eventually get to the same end, but the journey is sometimes different. Bazza
