    Hi All

Just wondering if anyone is using Google Wave and what do you think of it, is it useful or just another gimmic that in real daily use is too time consuming to use, similar to spending all your time on Facebook or Twitter?

I do have it and still wondering what benefit it has to me, while its main use is sharing information in real time with other folk in your Wave contact list, to planning say parties, meetings etc which could be useful I guess.

What you think if using it?

Slightly off topic, but I loved the news item about some idiot who is trying to sue twitter because after posting his vacation agenda, he came home to a ransacked house and most of his electronics where gone!! :-D:-D

I can do that, PM me your email address as I have a few invites left.

Have to say TimW, that seems to be one of the massive pitfalls of social netowrking and posting your every move, drives me up the wall when I see folk posting I'm on the train, I've just been the toilet, I'm happy... who gives a &^%$

Done, but dont know how quick the invites are sent out, also I know you will give this new social medium a good shake down and feedback what you think warts and all.

Also you will find out that as its beta and in true forum its rocky and prone to the server going offline at times.

I found an absolutely hilarious Facebook post from a woman who had forgotten she added her boss to her list of friends... and the boss did not appreciate what she wrote about him.

I'd post it here, but they both use a number of words that MGs auto-censors, so I decided against it. shame... it's really funny. LOL

nope, and don't have anything else. even cake don't care what cake's doing, after i'm finished, let alone telling everyone else.LOL

used to have 6 IM's running/chatting, while posting, while talking on webcam to a friend in the Netherlands. now, it would just give me a headache. i can BARELY stand talking on my iPhone for more than it takes to give/get info or set up a meet with my BFF to chat in person.

did have Paltalk for a bit and only chatted with members of a specific group (Catholics, btw). was so loaded with whack jobs (Catholic & non-Catholic, alike) i uninstalled and never went back...although i do miss wandering into the insult rooms just a skosh.roflmao

no offense to my new MG buds (you know who you are), i don't even want to talk to youse, except by PM. Posting and PMing doesn't give me a headache; adding anything else, would. it's not like we live next door and can go hang, or shoot things. (sigh) i still miss my gun.

    Hi

While it looks as if its a chat app its not Google have their own chat app anyhow in Gmail, but this is a online collaboration tool, in which users can in real time edit/change documents and have real time meetings, while I do in work have phone conferences, its difficult to send a document down the voice phoneline, whereas this mention we can basically have a roundtable meeting where you would have a flipchart of Smartboard to write on but this way its global.

Could help me setup future meetings between various centers at you can invite your group and then have voting pages for various topics to maps for direction, weather, meeting schedules that can be added to by all.

While I personally think this is vastly different to Facebook (similarities do exist in say oranising events and being a meeting place) I can see how some may use it the same and post when they put new socks on to telling everyone a 10min by 10min play of their day! in the initial stages but its not as easy to use in that respect than that of Facebook, this if you read the information it is a organisational collaboration tool over being a clone of Facebook or Wikipedia imho.

Its very early days but I can see the interaction with Google Docs being added in, the future direction by many tech companies is "cloud computing" and this type of thing will become the norm. I'm still evaluating its usefulness, undecided as yet, while I could use it now and again for the purpose of setting up events its not really a daily thing like Facebook or Twitter.

These things wont be for everyone, but cest la vie.

@McA, sent as still have a feww invites left.

Well, my two cents after a bit of using it.

LAGGY. Its downright creepy to see people typing in real time. I could see some very limited uses to it right now (editting code with a group of people), but as I understand its nowhere near feature complete?

    Hi Adryn

Indeed and agreed and great feedback.

Yes nowhere near feature rich as yet as this is very early beta, similar to how Gmail was in its first 6mths, being in at the start does have advantages of knowing what this medium can do and having a voice to change it which is what beta testing is, we can like many gripe about features but actually having used them we have an informed opinion and I take yours onboard as I find it as I mentioned to you has tendency to loose server.

Collaboration tool? Like Groove, sharepoint, or exchange unified messaging?

Yes very similar, kinda still like Groove as have this in work, but Wave could be used from any PC over having to have Office Groove installed.

With Chrome OS now being presented to testers and with the majority of ChromeOS being in the "cloud" I can see how Wave will fit into the scheme of things, only thing that still worries me about having data and an OS part based in the cloud is rhe flaky Internet many users have.

Infrastructure needs bringing to a level (definatly in the UK) to Japanese and Taiwanese levels of 100mb+ constantly and not an "up too" figure

First login with ChromeOS gave me a certificate security error. Later today or tonight I will do login again with screenshot and post in the Linux area (Chrome OS is based on Ubuntu). Yeah, stability is needed for the cloud for sure.

+1 as I just need to test everything to get a feel of whats available, while I'm a Microsoft MVP, it doesnt tie me to MSFT applciations exclusively, as I do test for others as well, would be neglectful of me not too. Just got a new Samsung netbook so prime to test it out against Windows 7 Home Premium on same machine.
