Hello there…. I’m just a newbie in WoW and I think I kind of love playing this game. Heard about mods that I could use to get a hang with the game. But I was wondering how I would be able to use this file “World of Warcraft Lootlink Ver 1.9.1”. I got it from this source http://dl.qj.net/MMORPG-PC-Gaming-World-of-Warcraft/catid/152. The file description looks cool but I’m having a hard time installing it. Hope someone can help me please….. thanks a lot

splitt3r You are now the victim of a drive by title change

from what I have tried all it takes to install addOns is extract the file to program files/World of warcraft/Interface/addOns

What is that supposed to do anyway? I haven't had a very good experience with addons, they always seem to cause problems and corrupted interface files, and they usually die whenever a new patch comes out. The only one I ever used was cosmos.

I haven't run Lootlink before, but I believe it creates an inventory of every item you've ever seen, so you can look them up later and link them in chat. So if you see someone walk by with the Nemesis Skullcap, you can inspect them and then later on that week link that item to your warlock friend so he can drool. I believe it also tracks auction prices, but I could be mixing it up with auctioneer.

If you want some simple addons that usually don't have too many problems, check out things like TitanPanel.

Titan is a really unobtrusive addon that puts a tiny bar at the top of your screen (and the latest version can be customized to add another to the bottom) which works a lot like the windows toolbar, but you can set it to display useful information. On mine I have it showing my current cash, bag space (reads something like 44/77), on lower level characters experience information (calculates time to next level based on your current rate of experience game and how much you need to level, which is nice if you're grinding out those last few bars), and performance (framerate, latency). You can set it to track all sorts of other things, but those are the basics. It's pretty unobtrusive, and once you get used to it, you won't want to play without it.

Most addons survive patches, but every so often Blizzard borks them with a patch, so yeah, you need to update them, which just means installing the new version and setting it up again. Can be a bit of a pain, but usually the addons also patch around the same time and you get new features and things to play with.

If you really want to get ambitious, you can go with some really crazy addons like Discord Action Bars, which allows you to customize your entire UI in the game. I use this one on my main because I use a Nostromo pad to play, and so I've customized the layout of my skill buttons to match the layout of my Nostromo pad on the screen. Kinda nice.
