rolleyes I just got a "refurbished" pc from Gateway to replace my old system. Since receiving it about 2 weeks ago, I've been trying to change my Aol password...without success...never had problems before. Each time I get a blank window "Screen Name Service" and a running blue bar loading over and over again "Opening page" and nothing else. I've spoken with Aol techs and nothing they suggest will help. I even uninstalled Aol and reinstalled from another CD. I also cannot access my Yahoo email with my user name and password. I've been trying for weeks now.. I'm wondering if when this refurbished system was shipped to me, somehow a necessary system service might not have been enabled - or possibly I may have some sort of virus/spyware? although my AVG/AdAware/Spybot are all up to date and all scans have been run without anything showing up. Thanks for any solutions. I'm at my wits end.

    Hi

Before we go down the route of malware scanning and removals, just try this for me, disable Spybot S&D adn then try again, as Spybot as part of its Tea-Timer resident scan blocks registry changes and I wonder if to change your AOL account info you need to have access to the registry.

also this from AOL support page

Thanks a mil, Halo. Your advice was so on target. My Aol password problem now solved...also my Yahoo mail sign in. Couldn't have done it without your expert help :) Now how do I disable Spybot S&D Tea Timer? confused I can't find it anywhere in Spybot S&D. I still would like to disable it even if it has nothing to do with Aol/Yahoo probs. Thanks again.

The below info will explain this.

    Now Disable Spybot's TeaTimer
    • Run Spybot and click Mode
    • Select Advanced Mode.
    • Then click Tools and select Resident.
    • Now in the right window pane, uncheck TeaTimer.
    • Also while this is open, in the left column now select IE Tweaks
    • and then in the right pane make sure all the Miscellaneous locks are unchecked.
    • Now quit Spybot!
