One day i noticed i had this process running: aolmed~1.exe

I think this is some AOL bullshit. Ever since this process appeared, when i load a webpage with embedded audio, i see an AOL logo with the top cut off where the embedded audio player should be. And there appears to be no way to play or even download the audio file with things this way.

Does anyone know how i can get this crap off of my pc? I'm running XP SP2. Thanks, any help would be much appreciated

Oh yah, i ran AVG antivirus, Spybot S&D, and Ad-Aware SE, and none of these noticed or removed aolmed~1.exe.

Uninstall AOL and it will go away. It is part of their software, so if you want to get rid of it, you will have to uninstall the software from AOL that installs it. Either way it is not malware (unless you want to call AOL malware like some people do ;) ). It is probably Radio@AOL: The executable file is AOLMED~1.EXE and the full file name is AOLMEDIAPLAYBACKCONTROL.EXE.

this worked to stop aolmed~1.exe from starting, but my web browser still won't play audio that's been embedded in html web pages. Where it used to display an aol logo with the top cut off and no controls with no sound, now it displays absolutely nothing where embedded media players should be. It's just an empty space.

Any idea how to get embedded media working again? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling quicktime, but it didn't help. (god i ****ing HATE aol and dumbass people who install it on other people's computers).

Thanks, any help is much appreciated

oh yeah, i'm trying to set the default player back to quicktime. I think that this may have something to do with activex controls, but i'm really not sure.

You will have to post in the Software Forum. This is not an issue for the Malware Forum.

If you want to use the AOL features than you cannot uninstall, stop from loading, or delete their files.
