    Greetings,

    I am running Win7 x64 Home Premium.

I ran Personal Software Inspector (PSI) and am advised that I need updates on the following:

    Apache 2.2.x
    Detected Instances:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Marvell\raid\Apache2\bin\httpd.exe, version 2.2.9
Latest Version - patching one or more vulnerabilities: 2.2.17

    PHP 5.2.x
    Detected Instances:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Marvell\raid\php5\php.exe, version 5.2.6
Latest Version - patching one or more vulnerabilities: 5.2.16

I followed the Apache link and landed here and have no idea what my proper update choice is.

I followed the PHP link and landed here and again don't know which to select.

Possible clues: I have a RAID 1 configuration and use the Adobe CS5 Master Collection....and am building (not hosting) a webpage.

I'll appreciate any and all direction.

    TIA

Uninstall both, you have no need for php or apache unless your actively hosting pages localy on that machine. Theres no reason i can think of that raid software or adobe would use either of the above items, but you can probably call adobe to check that fact out. As far as the raid software, not sure what to tell ya. The other issue becomes if your raid software is using it and it gets updated it might break what ever its using it for.

If? That's kind of the point. I'm not uninstalling anything unless I feel confident NO other program depends on it...especially whatever controls the raid configuration.

And, I also do not know what raid software you are referring to.

I do see " \raid\ " as a part of the path for the two programs in question, and also see "Marvell 91xx Config Device" in Device Manager under System Devices.

Thanks anyway for your thoughts, though my questions remain open...

The Apache and PHP softwares may be relevant software for the Adobe CS5 if you are using it to design websites. By having them on your computer, you can test a web page without uploading it to a server that has php on it.

As far as the upgrades go, I wouldn't do the upgrades if all your doing is making web pages but not serving them to the public from your computer. Their both new enough to use for testing on a closed system.

thanks shnerdly. that makes tons of sense and I feel my understanding has improved another notch...and I understand that updates can break stuff, yet both of the update sites make previous versions available.

Faced with the dilemma of seeing PSI not giving me the 100% score vs. the possibility of breaking something I don't even know if it's broken or not....I'll take the easy way out and do nothing.

    Thanks again for your reflection.

drcarl, you should try to keep your posts on the same subject confined to a single thread. You have at least three threads going on this same subject. All that does is create confusion.

shnerdly, actually, though some elements are shared between the three posts (like my OS is the same in all three - lol), I was trying to separate my issues and ask specific, detailed questions by placing them into separate posts --in order to reduce confusion and increase the possibility of a good reply.

I have learned that the more questions I have in a post, the more there are that get overlooked.

With your clarification, I can now see that they do share some answers with each other and may be the almost same issue, though I did not know that initially.

One is specifically on "update choices" - which actually still remains unanswered though it may be irrelevant because I decided to do nothing now, can probably find an answer if needed in the future.

Another is geared more toward the "raid" question and "dependencies" - also still unanswered, btw.

The original post shared a great deal with the two I just mentioned, and has additional questions, (#'s 2, 3, & 4) still unanswered.

The admins can delete or combine them or whatever...and I can re-ask new questions as they become relevant and carefully as I can.

Sorry for any confusion, and thanks for your clarity.

I really have a profound appreciation for this site and want it to work out for the best for everyone....(especially me)

    ;)
