Perhaps I don't know then, I heard she said she was ashamed to be from the same state, no?

What I mean is she did it at an anti war rally/concert in Europe.

I am all for free speech, but when you go to another country and denounce your own......

Ironical follow-up to the Chaser's escapade, and the embarrassing failure of security.

The Chasers were due to do an interview on Sunday morning (yesterday here in OZ) with Ian McNamara on Australia All Over (Australia's highest rating show, on every Sunday morning from 5.30am 'till 10am, and nearly 25 years on air).

The interview couldn't take place as The Chasers magnetic entry cards were only programmed for access to the ABC's doors (Australia's public broadcasting network--Not USA's ABC ;) ), on Wednesdays to record their show. :D

Now if we had only issued everyone with programmed magnetic swipe cards ...

Sounds like they weren't on Security's access list...so guess in this instance, Security procedures worked;):D

Didn't she say she was ashamed she was from the same state as the President? That's a far cry from denouncing her country, isn't it?

Yes I may have expanded that a bit. But Texas is an America state. So she pretty much said she is ashamed to be American.

My son is headed to Iraq this month. No matter if he or I am against or for the war. He is still going. Stuff like that empowers the bad guys. So I am totally against it.

Terribly sorry to hear your son will be going away, God be with him.
After everything being said here seems the D-Chicks pushed your button. It was pre-war and the country was England just to set the record straight. This is what was said,

“ Just so you know, we’re on the good side with y’all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas. ”

I couldn't believe all the uproar over what she said. She wasn't denouncing the U.S. or insulting the U.S. in any way. IMO she basically said she couldn't believe A great state like Texas could produce such a buffoon. Radio stations all over the country dropped them. In response, my mom dropped all those radio stations. I'm more of a rock and roll guy myself.

I agree with evilfantasy 100%. I’m from Texas and I don’t agree with everything that Bush is doing, but to have this FAT Biatch go over seas and criticize our President, does help to increase the hatred that already exist against the U.S.A.
Thousands and thousands of Americans, Britain’s, Australians, and other allied forces are in Iraq fighting for our freedom everyday.
We’re all going to sit back and let this self righteous little @$$hole speak her mind about something she knows nothing about or what implications this may cause. She took advantage of the platform that is afforded to them and she made a fool of her self. I personally think we should prosecute her for treason and ship her fat @$$ out of here.
Sorry for the semi rant, and I realize this took place years ago but it infuriates me every time I think or here about it. Let’s think about the innocent lives that are being taken on a daily basis and NOT about little Natalie. Again, I do apologize!

Proud to be an American !!

From the way it is phrased, I don't really see how anyone can see it as a dig at Texas or the USA.
It is clearly aimed at GWB, and if anything shows a lot of pride in Texas.

ie: How did our beautiful state produce that ?

She probably wasn't game enough to voice that view in Texas, which was a very good idea judging from the way her statement has been missinterperated.

Gotta say...regardless of what criticisms may be directed against our individual leaders, it's one thing to criticise your own, but quite another to hear anything said outside your own backyard. There is still that incredible pride that comes through which I think all around is pretty wonderful...IMO

It's just hard to understand why these girls were singled out when people said far worse things about Bush, Leno does it on a daily basis. They as I were in disbelief we were actually going to war without the backing of the UN before the investigation was complete. He actually makes jokes himself to this day about there being NO (weapons of mass destruction), laughing and saying," humm where are they". What nerve! I saw him say that on TV myself, my mouth dropping open.
It was a ruse an opportunity a vendetta if you will because his father lost the Gulf War. You know,Kuwait and all that oil.
The very worst though is he's killing our boys!!!!!

I'm done, will say no more on this subject

    Darlene don't goooooooooooo!

Honestly I am not offended from anyones views. This has been a good discussion in my eyes. Nobody has gotten nasty (yet) It's OK though, she pissed off Toby Keith and he helped in shutting her up. Look how popular he is and how popular they were.

What I mostly didn't like about what she did is that she she thought, or at least her demeanor was, that it was cute.

Poking fun at the Prez is all good. He does it to himself. Literally.

I remember hearing about it, but this is the first time I have seen the exact quote.
Regardless of whether you are pro or anti Bush or anything else, you should re-read the words if you are in any doubt as to what they may mean.

I don't generally have any sympathy for anyone who has anything do with country 'music', ;) but she must have wondered what all the fuss was about.

A lot of media 'spin' and other peoples agenda's I would imagine

Actually, I think the Dixie Chicks still arevery popular, if not more so.

"In 2003 The Dixie Chicks won 4 Grammy Awards (their first ever): Best Country Album (HOME), Best Country Performance ("Long Time Gone"), Best Country Instrumental Performance ("Lil' Jack Slade") and Best Recording Package (HOME). And the Dixie Chicks went from being a band appreciated by country music fans to being a band appreciated by MUSIC fans-- all over the world." All this took place after the remarks. Even today they put out real good music (for a country band ;)), and it takes a lot of luck to get tickets for their shows. They are selling out all over the place.

Yea, but Toby Keith has a Ford Truck commercial. Can't get much bigger then signing with one of the big 3 auto makers. He also goes overseas to entertain and lift moral of the troops.

At the time they did that they had to cancel a lot of concert dates. They lost millions.
I don't think she really was prepared to back up what she said. Thats what I mean by I think she thought she was being cute. She didn't really understand how to handle the backlash things like that create. They are good at what they do I won't deny that.

Back to the original topic. :D

Some wag said "I wonder if the Dri-Z-Bones were made in China?"
As you are aware, most stuff nowadays imported to any country, comes from China. :cry :( Hence their huge $$$ surpluses and why they don't de-value their currency.)

Fortunately, our PM made sure that didn't happen and they were genuinely Aussie made.:cool

Looked better than most of those other previous APEC offerings, IMO. :D

    Totally agree Bazza!

I thought "What a great idea for an Aussie photo dress...now that is real Australian"...(though didn't like the contrasting APEC colours which I thought spoilt the overall look). I love my Dri-Z-Bones and still make good use of it too!;) It is also the type of gift I give to any overseas visitors...they always love it.

For those who do not know what APEC photo shoot with the Dri_Z_Bone Bazza and I are referring to, here's the official photo taken outside our Opera House where the Summit Meeting was held. The coats may not look much to the uninitiated, but they are great coverage...particularly in wild and woolly weather:

    Re that Chaser motorcade incident:

"Eleven Chaser crew members have been charged after allegedly driving a fake motorcade into an APEC restricted zone in Sydney last week in a stunt which earned the satirists worldwide media coverage.

They will appear in court next month and plan to defend charges of entering a restricted area without justification, which carry a maximum penalty of six months' jail."

    So still on...

I don't think they expected to get past the first checkpoint.
All would have ended there and then, with no probable charges if they had been stopped there.

Once through the first checkpoint they didn't have much choice but to keep going. Imagine doing a u-turn in between checkpoints. :D

Through the second checkpoint, they'd be wishing they'd never started this stunt, IMO.

Probably why "Osama" stepped out of the limo, to bring an end to the stunt.

Hmm...makes you wonder how far people let other people go (in many things), just because someone looks official, and acts in a official manner. Are most people, even security forces, so programmed to obey authoritarian figures? Looks like the answer is "Yes".

L.S., I'm glad you're getting your city back, so to speak. ;)

I'd agree "YES" in this instance. Each checkpoint would be less suspicious as "someone else" would have checked them out before they got to "us". Bazza

True. Although some of us found it a comic relief (like a nervous laugh) with such a tense atmosphere that week given the unfamiliar security precautions, it was a foolish prank...and in hindsight a pretty dangerous one considering the snipers on the rooftops. Imagine if police or security had alerted "false motorcade" before the farce came to an end...

  31. legalsuit

Things slowly getting cleared (lots of security fencing, signs, blockades being removed) and this takes time given the radius for precautions. So city is slowly going back to normal though there still have been delays. We didn't expect things to be cleared before today or later in the week anyway. But we are breathing easier now. Not feeling like such stunned mullets anymore:D

True. I've been speaking with a Police Inspector who noted the long hours of hanging about, Police can get bored...no excuse though. There have been some discrete internal police investigations going on so some heads will roll.

There are legal, public and security responsibilities each government has which can vary dependent on the individual country's rules and law. Therefore, I'll not comment on another country's governance.

There are many victims besides genuine Iraqis in this war. So God bless the serving military and representatives from different countries for their efforts and contribution at trying to put an end to all that's going on...as you say, we can only hope it all ends soon.

Finally caught that on the news roflmao...even the news presenter was laughing. I cracked up when "security" told police they wanted to turn the motocade around and were told "the road is yours"...Kinda weird when Chaser's crew finally stop and get out to later see police grab "security's" arm and march them off with "Osa bin laden" in full garb just walking beside them:confusedrolleyes

Interested to hear what argument they'll be presenting in court in defence of their charges for entering a restricted area without justification;)

Not a matter of feeling obliged...they broke the law...black and white here. What will probably be taken into consideration is if there were any prior offences by the defendants, and if "yes", then what type and level.

Plus public funds were used for this stunt, given it was the ABC. Kind of ticklish too, given they had ABC's approval. Will be an interesting case.;)
