    Hello everyone..

While attempting to play a few games today, I encountered this error message:

"Must call RA_Initialize before any other API function."

I received this error message while trying to play games from Reflexive Arcade. I can download the games just fine..and it'll put an icon on my desktop..but when I click the icon to actually play the game..I get that message.
I can download and play games from other websites with no issues..
I have tried to find the solution myself..but I am not even sure what that is.

I am running Windows Vista on an HP desktop if that helps.
It cant be my hard drive space..I have more than enough.

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi

Can you right click the games icon and choose properties and then in compatablity choose XP Sp2 to run the game in that mode?

Also what do Reflective's support say on this error, I would contact them as this doesnt seem a popular issue when reviewing others with same question.

    Hi,

I haven't tried that..as Im very new to Vista..But I will try it..
I havent found any info on Reflexive's website..but I continue to search...

Youre right..this problem seems so uncommon..cant find any info anywhere..

    Hi

Just quick question is your Vista 32bit or 64bit?

I would also update your graphics card driver as well, and I take it these games are ones you download over playing via a webpage?

Just get feeling that maybe this websites games are not Vista compatible, but also as many games are ether java or flash based, update Java and Flash

Java here (would also run JavaRa to remove any old Java versions as they can cause issues)

    Adobe Flash here

    Hi Halo,
    Thanks for the suggestions..
Now, I am unsure of the 32 or 64 bit..if you can tell me how to check, I will let you know..
This pc new and is less than 2 months old...would there be anything that Id have to update? To answer you, no..these are not via a webpage, but off of a games disc that was purchased. I installed the same games Im having trouble with, onto my brother's pc since he has Vista as well..to see if Vista was the cause..but they play just fine on his pc. So I don't think I can blame Vista for this one. I recently did a Java, Flash and Direct X upgrade..since the pc prompted me for it..The Adobe Flash Player..I have version 10.

Im thinking maybe I have something on that should be off...or vice versa?

    Hi

You can just right click Computer and choose Propeties and under System heading and then next to System Type it will either say 32bit or 64bit Operating System

One other thing to try is to right click the Games shortcut and choose Run as Administrator as these games may not have admin access as they may not have originally been created with Vista in mind, and as they play on your brothes PC with Vista, is there anything different he has installed in security applications?

also are you logging on as admin or in a limited user account? if limited user account then the above in Run as Admin may help

    Hi Halo,

Ok, I checked..what Im seeing is this:

    Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) 9650 Quad-Core Processor 2.30 GHz
    Memory: (RAM) 8.00
    System type: 64-bit Operating System

Im not sure if any other info here is relevant ...
I did not ask my brother if he has done anything to his secuity settings..but I definitely will..

To answer you..Yes..Im running as an Admin..since Im the only one that uses this pc..I even clicked for it to run on Admin just to make sure..
But I still have this problem..

    Thanks once again...

    Hi

What security software do you have installed and disable it to test the game, have noted on reflectives forum that some users have had issues in x64 Vista with firewalls that do more than just being a firewall.

Have you tried the other compatibility modes? 98, ME, et cetera? Also try right-clicking the file, go to Properties and to the Compatibility tab, and check the box for "run as administrator" if you haven't already.

Oh, and it RA_Initialize a file or a process? Either way, check if Defender and your Windows Firewall are set to allow it through for both in-bound and out-bound traffic.

One last thing: In addition to Halo's suggestions to install the latest Java and Flash, check that your .NET Framework is up to date. I poked around on the Reflexive Arcade website and several of their games seem to be needing .NET

    .NET Framework 3.5

Let us know if any of this is any help! :)

    Hi Mimsy..thanks for the reply...

Ive done the compatibility modes with no success. Ive also ran it as an admin..still the same issue. I'll double check on the in bound and out bound traffic with the Defender, because I can't remember if Ive tried that or not.
I believe I have the latest Java and Flash..I recently did an update..but wont hurt to double check..

However I am unsure of how to do that .NET Framework..or even where it is to see if its up to date. If you can point me in the right direction with that, I'll get right on it!

    Thanks again!
