Apology.

I would like to apologize for past and probably future posts I made or will make. My background in the Folding is from much more competitive teams. My former team has all kinds of contests for folding and cranks out insane points. My current team (besides my little venture here) is also very competitive, we have a lot of fun with 'smack talk' and such.

So when I see the laid back nature of your team, I am kinda like, WTF? What are they doing? Just as I am sure you read some of my posts and think the same WTF is Fred babbling about? :-D

I guess it is a bit of culture shock to me and you! Again, if I post something crazy in the Folding area, it is not to offend on purpose, and I will do my best to keep my posts, ah, more mellow in the future. :-D

 

Okay Fred I'll bite, what did I miss? Thought you've been quite laid back lately, fess up what did you do while I was napping? *smacks Fred* you feel better now? I have major weapons at my disposal, so behave *evil grin*

 

It is possible I got a little lippy with the future Minister of Canadian Humor. You call him Augie. I wanted to post a blanket type statement, because I come from a totally different Folding background. Your team, well, I guess my team as I am on it as well baffles me.

I can't comprehend your passiveness I guess. I am a competitive folder, you folks, well, heck, you have a folding team. Not to put any of you down. All Folding is good! Cat_w_9, I am trying to blend in here. It is hard for me. :-D

From what I've seen people who fold for M.G. are primarily interested in contributing rather than slapping each other around with smack talk - I'm just chilling along :cool.

I am baffled by your passive folding nature. Truly, it confuses me. So a post by me could perhaps be taken the wrong way, and that is not my goal.

Personally, I would be finding out who had NVIDIA cards, 8800GT or GS and above, and be trying to get them up and Folding!

Keep in mind, with one NVIDIA 9800 and an occasional assist from my NVIDIA 280 , I am in your top 50 in one month. I just think your can do so much more with just a little work at recruiting. But that, I will leave to you, my mellow folks! :cool

Well, Cat, we really should broaden it to all with a Nvidia 8800 cards and up. They crank our some points! With a bit of cooling, those 8800's can be overclocked as well. :-D

I can understand your passion for folding etc. and good natured ribbing as I occasionally do that myself when say, I gloat getting a second GPU going etc. As to recruiting, well curious people will check out this thread just to see what this noodnik Fred_G is apologizing for, probably get more people to look than just saying I got a second GPU going.LOL You may even get someone curious about folding.

Why limit it to just 8800's and above, any nVidia CUDA capable GPU or ATI R600 and above will beat the pants off of CPU folding. Besides MGs points were mostly made by longtime CPU folders, which is a lot more impressive than coming in with a good GPU and getting to 50th spot in a month.

Augie, the Geek folders, I honestly don't get them. And to you Geek folders, no offense is meant.

The whole reason I am doing this is to maybe get another mellow person to join the Geek team, or perhaps even Borg something!

But in your mellow Folding site, I am more likely to come off as a jerk. And it is certainly not my intention to lessen the good of folding units, insult current Folders, or be offensive. So it is a bit of a juggle to me.

 

Or you step up and join team 12072. A modern Video card is the best, but we take CPU folders as well. Post up what you have, and we can get you folding soon. :-D

Here's something you might find funny rolleyes. I know your competitive and you want to get to the top or be at the top the fastest.

Here's my target based on projected figures from the E.O.C. site. In 25.6 years I will have passed Nitrowing's folding figures :-DLOL and by gum I'll be pretty darn old by then, not sure what state my poor little ol' computer will be in either. :heli, there ya go - now don't be saying I'm not inspired to achieve - just not in a fired-up hurry.

More power to your folding,a bit of healthy competition is always good and scoring brag points gives pleasure as well.
I am sure with the membership of MGs you should be able to charge up the table (currently 115) if some of the members with high end graphics cards were to just get involved.
Our team has just 11 or 12 active folders and we are rolling along.
Our leader the smart one keeps us updated with new info and any help we need.

I am folding with a GTX295 and getting 7000+ ppd on just 1 machine.

Paramonks, settle down! You will burn up your PC at that rate! Of course T&DGeek is currently scheduled to pass said Nitrowing in 98 days. :cool

I might even pull the 'twins' out of retirement. With aftermarket cooling, I can only fit one 9800GT in the T&DG box. I wonder if 2 8800GS Alpha Dog Edition cards would crank out more points? If I remember they put out 3 to 4K PPD each...

@ Shane, don't worry, the Cat and I are known to 'discuss' folding issues. Luckily for me, the Cat keeps it's claws and teeth clean, none of the scratches or bite marks got infected. The Cat is one of my friends now. :-D

 

Hopefully you have more than 1 friend here. This is like an extended family.

 

I do 'get' you but I don't see why flogging a horse to drink will help the cause any. I do know plenty of people here have big iron but if they don't want to then there's no point in trying to get them interested as I'm sure many have been curious as to what's going on here and just said no thanks, not for me.

I can only speak for myself of course but this main rig of mine is almost maxed out and I have a dedicated Ubuntu X2 rig doing SMP. I can't expect anyone to devote the amount of time that I do towards this, some folks have RLs.:-D

Start again from the bottom with a different username and pass us all again for a second time? A noteworthy achievement, but what exactly will it mean and to whom?

And if you think that some of us are not committed ( or maybe should be committed ) about folding, just go back to some of the folding threads and see what I am putting my own machine through for the team.
Should be able to find them since you responded in most of them.
Have been going 24/7 since starting.
1175 pionts, 5WUs so far might not seem like that much, but haven't really been doing it for that long.Already up to 490 on the team listing.
May not be competitive, but determination ( translated= stubbornness) counts for something also.:-D:wave

It is your team, you will fold as you wish. I am just here for a while, and will try to leave you folks alone, so you can fold like you want. I just posted this so if I do post something, well, slightly encouraging or perhaps moderately competitive, you will know why.

You don't have to understand it to flow with it.
99.9% of the men don't understand women, but we can't get along without them. Same way here.

It's not meant as cold, it's a serious question? I also know Fred does this out of the kindness of his heart, I am afraid that we (me inparticular) aren't competitive enough for him.

It's the mellow mother in me. I'm trying to get my almost teenage child at this time to enjoy this stage of her life/journey and to not be in such a hurry all the time also.

If Fred is upset with me then I wholeheartedly apologise. (I'm very good a falling on my sword) LOL

You will in time... One of the main reasons this is the only forum I'm a active member at is because the members are all accepted for who they are. Some are leaders, verbal, opinionated, laid back, playful, highly technical, good tweakers, good troubleshooters... list goes on. We all wander about at our own pace and respect, accept, help or support each other when needed.

Fred you're a great help with tech and tweaking questions and we appreciate your thoughtful contribution to folding here. I know you like to push the limit and respect your technical knowledge along with your contribution to folding and research.

I get you, so in time you will get us. Those that fold here contribute what they can, those that don't want to fold contribute in other ways to MGs. In the end we're all doing what we have an interest in to the best of our ability, which makes this a great place?

I know your intentions are good and you're trying to give us a push. Discussion is healthy for folding, so's humor. We have a high drop-off rate that I don't understand because folding is so easy, but I accept it as what is.

We have high end folders and more low end like me but all folders at the end of the day contribute points to MGs Team and help keep it going. It took me a year to make the top 100/54,247 points on a old dell and part-time laptop but worth it because it's my way of contributing to MGs Team and research that will help someone.

I posted my 'apology' because I don't want to post something that is just common for me, but might not go over well or might offend one of you.

I have lost several family members to cancer. Stats are a by product of completed WU's, and the more WU's we do, perhaps a cure for cancer is closer. While it is fun to watch the stats, PPD, team rankings and all, ultimately, there is a reason I fold. I don't have the illusion that my computer will find the cure for cancer, but I do think it might be a small help in the battle.

Folding also does some research for Alzheimer's. I watched my Grandfather slowly wither away into a sad shell of himself. I think the true horror of that disease are the occasional moments of lucidity. I will end that story there, although there is more.

Yes, I am competitive with it. Fold however you wish to. At least you folks have a team, many other sites don't, and look at you funny if you mention it.
