    Hey guys,
First of all thanks for your help.

Ok so my problem is my dads computer is opening apps but they are not working properly. So in powerpoint for example i can add a shape, but when i change the shape color, it shows like it changed on the format tool but it actually stays white. Another program is Rhino (like autocad kind of) it lets him open the file but changing anything doesnt work its like a read only file is the easiet way to describe it... I have no clue whats causing this and my dad is the typical guy that presses everything messing it up further... Does anyone know what i can do? is there a way for all programs to go back to original settings without losing any information or programs? thanks

You need to mention what version of Windows is on the computer, as well as any service packs. PowerPoint i part of Office so you alsoi need to state what version of Office.

We can't help it; it's coded into the Y chromosome. Besides, randomly and ignorantly pressing keys is just plain fun.

plodr is right, we need more info from you. Take a look at the link below and it will direct you to a download a program that will list all sorts of things about your dad's computer, OS, etc. You can then copy and paste the info into a post or attach the document (with all personal codes and such edited out) to a post.

Also take a look at this page that walks you through how to attach a file to your post

And I might as well ask now. Does your dad's computer have antiviral software installed. You should definitely run a thorough scan to see if there's any malware on your computer that may be causing or contributing to your problem. If your dad does not have antiviral software installed or if the scan comes up negative, you should probably scan the system with an online scanner that has the newest viral definitions. Go to the following page for step by step explanation of how to do that.

OK, don't mean to throw so much at you at once but if it's malware related you may not have a long time to figure it out. Good luck!

OK, now download the following program called Speccy

    http://majorgeeks.com/Speccy_d6358.html

Install it, run it, and it will create a text file that you can save to your desktop. Go to your desktop and open it with notepad (just double click on it). Edit out any personal information including serial numbers, then save it.

Then go to http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=86880 to learn how to attach a file to your post.

Post another message in this thread with the aforementioned text file attached.

That will give people something to work with in assessing your problem.
