Computer extremely slow, freezes at times. Upon start up windows splash screen appears, pauses, goes black then windows splash screen appears again, then the log in screen appears.

Began several months ago, when I purchased iTouch (returned product: defective). Not sure if that is the root of the problem or not. The systems just seems unstable.

    Notes:
Intend to upgrade CPU, but need to address issues first.
CPU is used for home network.
Although not currently installed, do have XP Pro, would like to eventually go back to using that version instead of Home Edition.

Followed all directions as posted. Attached is the logs as per instructions.
You guys are the greatest and I apologize in advance if I post incorrectly.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You are not having malware problems!
You don't need to change your CPU! You need to add 4 times the amount of RAM that you have. You have the below:
    Code:
    Total Physical Memory 256.00 MB
    Available Physical Memory 14.86 MB
Your PC will always run slow until you add more RAM. You cannot properly run Windows XP SP3 and all the other processes you need to run with 256 MB of memory and having only 14.86 MB free is why your PC is slow. Get 1 GB of memory for your PC and you will see a tremendous improvement. 1 GB = 1 Gigabyte and that is 4 x 256 MB

    First, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Second, I feel a bit silly. :-o I know the RAM is extremely low, but didn't realize how much it was slowing the system down. I will place an order for additional RAM immediately.

Again, you guys are great and thank you for all of your time.

    You're welcome.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
