I saw that Antiy released some stuff a few days ago and I saw it on the MajorGeeks front page. I've tried two of these: ATool, and a virus scanner/remover called AVL Mini. ATool is freekin' AWESOME! It's like a process explorer on steroids! Similar to Autoruns from Sysinternals. It simply rocks. Very detailed info about system processes, files, autoruns, BHO's and the like. Great for tracking down the trickiest of malware, and it's 100% free :D Here's the link: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Atool_d5845.html The other app is AVL Mini. A cool little virus remover. Now, it states that it's shareware, and the unregistered version will only scan for viruses and report what it finds; no removal until you pay the $9.95 registration fee. BUT- in my quest to find out more about AVL Mini, I went to the AVL home page and after some poking around, found that Antiy Labs provides free registration/activation codes each month! Too cool. Anyway, here's the link to download AVL Mini from MajorGeeks: http://www.majorgeeks.com/AVL_Mini_d4923.html and here's the link to Antiy Labs and the monthly registration codes: http://www.antiy.net/product/avl/code.htm I personally have rated both ATool and AVL as top notch; 5 stars. They rock.

Not as far as I can tell. Antiy has a full antivirus program; AVL Mini is just a little scanner/remover. In my 'tests' I found it to be fast, and fairly accurate, and no crashes on 3 different PC's I ran it on. I did get some false positives (HP's bin\PsKill.exe for example; this is a VERY common false positive. I've seen other apps hit on it also), but I had AVL set to prompt before deleting anything. I didn't check RAM usage (I will the next time I run it), but I generally don't perform other tasks when scanning for viruses, so resource usage isn't a big issue....

Kind of off topic here, but I used to run Prevx back in the day, when they had a free "generic" home version. That's what they called it, generic. Then one day, about a year ago (Oct or Nov 2006), they just stopped supporting it; no updates, you couldn't download it anymore (the free version), and that was it. No warning, nothing. It was (still is even without updates) one of the best real-time protection apps I had ever used. It not only protected based on definitions, but also on behavior and activity. It didn't have a scanner or removal tools; it was best when installed on a clean PC right after installing Windows.... I miss it :cry
