    I've seen the articles.

I think if you have all your patches, your computer has the proper protection (and updates), and you are smart about what sites you go to, you'll be fine. Unfortunately, that excludes the vast majority of computer users, so we'll see.

I don't think it's going to pan out to be much of anything though, or at least not as big as they would hope.

With Laura on this. Still remember the Y2K scare. Had people and conglomerates scrambling...
People actually cancelled their flights and what not. It was a crazy time. But who was to know.
    Stay and surf safe..Cheers :)

Currently re-registering Avast on the borgs and this computer, running scans... Can't hurt! Seems I have been on the laptop for a couple of weeks with only the windows defender running. Curious if it will find anything. :-D

@Boom :-D As I'm new to Distros really can't say. I've googled away to glory.
With conflicting views :) Some believe it to be virus proof and then again..
Without saying much more it's a lot safer though.. :) If my googling interpretation is correct :)

I'm booting up, maybe the boogie man will get me and I'll get to buy a new machine, this one is 7 years old and my wife won't let me get a new one.

I just do not grok why people get joy out of destroying other people's computers... my mind just does not work that way...rolleyes

Because destroying your own gets expensive quick. And besides, at worst these need a reinstall of windows.

Good morning everyone - thought I would throw my 2cents in about the "confliker" worm.....I have been doing a little research along with talking to my instructor about this. Apparently a critical update that M$ put out 10/22/2008 KB958644 (MS08-067) will protect you. I checked my M$ updates and I DID NOT have that particular update so I went to M$ and downloaded it. For those of you that do not have the update here is the link:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6E-9265-44B9-A376-2067B73D6A03&displaylang=en

I also made sure that all my programs were updated and current ie: AVG, Spybot etc. I hope this is helpful.:)

Well I fired up my lap top this morning and I heard a sound that I have not heard in a long time. It was the sound of my modem trying to dial out. Also my connection is very slow. I do believe I am infected. Is there any hope to remove this without formatting?

    Hi and welcome :)

I really wouldn't jump to conclusions. Take a look thru this if you believe you are infected with malware and I certainly wouldn't think about formatting until you've had the all clear!!! Have there been any obvious symptoms of malware?

First off thanks for the fast reply. TO answer your question, Yes I found that link via Kim K's web site. When I first ran those (about two months ago) it found several items and I removed those per the software. Since then I have ran a combo of them every week. Spy-bot and AVG daily and Super is live all the time. I thought I was protected.

In the last few days I have noticed bandwidth issues that my ISP provider said was not on their end. Also I use Netflix and I could not stream movies due to "Internet connection being poor". Also when I open Fire-fox or Explorer there is about a 60-120 second delay on opening. This all started about a week ago when my daughter used my lap top to download ring tones to her phone via USB from a site call Phonezoo. She turned off my firewall so that she could access the site. I have no proof this is where the problem came from but was the only time I know of that my lap top was "in the open".

Hi there. If you believe your machine is infected then you really need to run the procedures, the scans...and attach the 4 requested logs into a new thread you create in malware removal. :)

    Paxton007 MajorGeek

I use Phonezoo at my house, and have never downloaded anything, Phonezoo (at least in my case) sends the ringtone as a text message, and you save the sound in the text as a ringtone. I've not played around with it too much, but are you certain that's the site she was using the USB cable with?

Phonezoo seems pretty reputable, I can't imagine any problems with a download from them.

She went to her high school's home page and phonezoo. The only reason I am sure of that is due to a keylogger I have installed. This is also how I knew she turn off the firewall. It records everything via text and screenshots. Phone Zoo may very well be safe and not the cause. Oh and I assumed she used a USB cable, my bad there.

  48. Paxton007

    Paxton007 MajorGeek

Wouldn't key logging software be some kind of malware? I mean, you're installing a program that logs keystrokes, and allows you to look at the logs, it would be fair to say that this program would also be capable of sending those logs to someone else, without your knowledge.

I'd say between Phonezoo, A school website, and a keylogger, the latter would be most likely responsible for any breaches in your security.

Reporting for duty! :major All is fine here. I updated everything yesterday, created an image on TI, even downloaded a removal tool from Symantic, just to be sure. Have only this computer, so I'd be lost should it hit. *knock wood*

On a side note, mavric240... Does your daughter know that she can't trust you? It sounds to me like a computer might be the least of your problems. I hate spies, you should be ashamed. In retrospect, you sort of deserve anything that happens to your computer, at least you'll still HAVE a daughter.
