I stupidly clicked a link on a new face book (mafia wars) friend and... something took over. REDIRECTING ,POP UPS, will not allow windows updates or F-SECURE updates or scans, cannot log on to Major Geeks, Bleeping Computers or many other sites (redirects to anything but), cannot find server!!
I completed Read & run Me by downloading from laptop the best I could. Was not able to install "Recovery Console". I am sending my logs from a cd.:tas

I am not seeing much of anything in your logs. You do need to slide ComboFix off the D: drive and put it directly on your desktop.

    However let's do this:
    * Please download TDSSKiller to your Desktop
    * Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    * Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bold command into Run box and hit Enter.

    "%userprofile%\Desktop\TDSSKiller.exe" -v

    * Follow the instructions to type in "delete" when it asks you what to do when if finds something.
    * When done, a log file should be created on your C: drive named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply.

Now use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\fsbts.sys

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * TDSSKiller log
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

The logs are clean. I am not seeing any malware. Have you tried disabling your Charter Security and seeing if that makes a difference? Have you cleaned out your internet cache? Run both CCleaner as well as ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

This may well be a software issue. Can you do an online scan:
    http://www.superantispyware.com/onlinescan.html

Reboot immediately after scanning if it finds and removes anything. Let me know if anything was found. It does not save a log.

Sorry for the delay. I did the things you mentioned as best I could. Going from my daughters laptop to mine and vice versa VIA cd burning. But nothing worked, I still could not update or view many sites (server not found, http 404 error).

The virus or whatever, is a pop up that say my pc is not protected do I want to scan. It scans no matter what then freezes. It must have disabled my Charter f-secure updater, but f-secure still said I was protected but not updated.

I could not install Recovery Console from COMBO-FIX, (could not get to Microsoft.com). I looked for other ways to get it. I looked into i386 file and found support tools. Installed it and WAH_LAH everything is back!!

Do I need to go back and remove anything? Old files? What made my recovery console go away in the first place?:confused

Are you saying that everything is now working properly? I can only surmise that you had a conflict between your Charter Security and your F-Secure AV programs as you should only have one AV program installed.

You need to take ComboFix out of the folder on your desktop and put it directly on the desktop:
    Running from: c:\documents and settings\Nana\Desktop\combo fix\ComboFix.exe

Charter supplies my f-secure so they are one and the same. Everything is working fine now. Thanks.:-D

    Ah, that explains it. :)

Good to know that things are running smoothly.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
