    Hello,

My anti-virus software detected 2 files as virus called arcadecandygames.exe and arcadecandygames(1).exe and put them in Quarantine.

I have not experienced any major problems with my computer prior to the detection and quarantine of these files. The only thing I have noticed (that had never happened before) is that when my web browser is open, sometimes one or two of my desktop icons will randomly pop up "through" the browser page and be visible, but goes away when I go to another web page.

I have been unsuccessful in finding accurate information on these files as to whether or not it really is a virus, the severity, and any removal instructions. So, the files are still in Quarantine.

Any information on the detected files and/or advice is most appreciated.

I am running Windows XP Home version 2002, SP3, 32 bit on Pentium 4 CPU 3.2 GHz with 1 GB RAM.

I am using Google Chrome version 23.0.1271.95m as the default browser.

I am using only one anti-virus software and only one firewall software.
    Avast anti-virus version 7.0.1474
    Comodo Firewall version 5.10.228257.2253

I have already run the CCleaner as per the Read & Run Me First Malware Removal Guide and I am currently in the process of downloading and running the other software recommended.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    ~Neferatun

Before we continue I would like for you to use MSConfig to put this machine back into normal start up mode

Re run Hitman and have it delete Malware remnants and Potential Unwanted Programs.

Ask Toolbar <--- Uninstall this junk using Revo Uninstaller. http://majorgeeks.com/Revo_Uninstaller_d5706.html

http://imageshack.us/a/img841/7292/thisisujrt.gif Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista or Windows7) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

    Hi,

When I clicked on the Junkware Removal Tool link from your previous post, Google Chrome gave the warning "This file appears to be malicious" with the options to keep or discard. I discarded it for now in case it was a redirect. This is the very first time Google Chrome has given this warning upon attempting to download a file. Is there another way to get this program? Thanks.

    Hi,

Here are the new log files requested.

I accidentally ran the Junkware Removal Tool before removing the Ask Toolbar. I reran the JRT again after, so there are 2 JRT.txt files attached.

    Thanks for your help. :)

Did you knowingly install this? Upromise TurboSaver (remove only)

What problems remain? Logs look good.

    Upromise TurboSaver was intentionally installed.

Still no significant problems, except that occasionally one of my desktop icons will pop up "through" the browser page and be visible, but goes away when I go to another web page.

The arcadecandygames.exe and arcadecandygames.exe(1) files are still in quarantine. Can I now let the anti-virus software delete these files safely?

Thank you so very much for your help. :))

Yea let the AV delete it. :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 4 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

I have performed the final steps and the system seems to be ok now. Thanks again for all your help :)
