Hi, just bought a syringe of Arctic Silver 5 and used it on my husband's machine because he accidentally removed the heatsink from his CPU.

I followed the directions provided by Arctic Silver for the type of CPU he has, but they were a little vague on the proper curing procedure... saying the machine should be turned off "from time to time and the interface is allowed to cool to room temperature."

What is 'from time to time'? Every hour? Every three hours?

It says that until the thermal paste has gone through the 200 hours of break-in time, it should not be left on as desired, but cycled to achieve maximum conductivity.

I need this question answered ASAP since he couldn't stand it and is currently on the machine. lol Hate for this to end up a 700 dollar OOPS!

    lol Thanks.

Those are just ideal conditions, not a life or death thing.

Just turn it off when you arent using it. Surely you arent on it 24/7.

So long as the temperatures arent too high, you are just fine.

I don't think he has a program for monitoring his temperatures, but no, he is not on it 24-7.
Cool, thanks, because you should have seen the look he gave me when I told him he couldn't just get on it and stay on it all night. lol
I will have to snag him PC Wizard or something, just to be safe.
