    Hi.

Are malware scans, defragging and reg cleaning required to be done on each account or just on the main admin account i.e. your account? (I don't refer to the default admin account)

    Thanks.

Just work on the account you are actually having problems with at the moment.

Actually let me add to what Kestrel13! stated and clarify something. Nowhere in our malware removal instructions do we ask you to defrag and registry clean. Nor do we want you to. We actually recommend not to do registry cleaning. And defragging is just not part of malware removal at all.

No, you have misunderstood me. I only added the defrag and reg cleaning bit as a separate query –*I know it has nothing to do with malware removal but thought it would be better to ask as well instead of opening another thread.

    Case scenario:-
If Joe person has a Windows XP PC with 3 accounts:
    Joe ~ admin
    Jon ~ limited
    Jay ~ limited
    Jan ~ admin

Do I just do malware scans from Joe account? Or do I do scans from Joe and Jan accounts? Or all 4?

If having malware issues with Joe account, run them from there. If issues with Jan account, run from there. If having issues with any of the other two limited accounts you will have to make them admin temporarily before running all the scans.

But someone could be having no issues and yet still have a dangerous virus lurking!

OK. Let's take a step back. :) What brought you here in the first place? What actual malware problems are you experiencing?

I have a laptop with XP, it has 4 accounts. I may well just install Linux Mint and wipe Windows away. I am asking re malware for this PC (if I decide to stick with XP) and also for future reference.

OK then. So if no actual malware removal needs to take place this thread can be closed now? Do you need to ask anything else?
