Are Windows 10's Default Firewall/AV Really Good Enough?

I've been having trouble getting a good AV/security suite to work with Sandboxie on my laptop. I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and it's causing a bit of a conflict.

I live and die by my sandbox, as I never load up the internet without it. But I always like to keep a good AV running in real-time as well as a strong firewall. When we couldn't find one that is compatible, one of the mods suggested I simply stick with the default Windows Defender and standard Windows firewall (saying it can cause more trouble than it's worth trying to use a 3rd party).

Is this really true? If I always run Internet Explore sandboxed, so am I really safe enough just running the Windows 10 version of the default, packed-in AV/firewall? That seems kinda crazy to me.

    Thanks!
