Ever since I installed Microsoft NET Framework v 2, 3, and 3.5 I'm getting in CCleaner's registry issues a whole list of ticked items to be deleted. Getting annoyed about this, since prior to downloading these MSFT packs I never experienced this problem. See pic. They all concern Uninstaller Reference Issues. HKLM\Software\Windows Current Version.

Is there something wrong with my Network setup, or lack thereof? (have only one machine) Or is this normal? :confused

Does anyone have an answer to the above why these items are appearing and how possibly to solve it.

Thank you for any answers you may have.

If you use FF, might be related to this

    http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=20245

    http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-vie...cale=en-US&comments_parentId=265132&forumId=1

But not sure, I use Vista SP1 mostly and seen no such entries in Ccleaner and have NET 3.5 with FF. Can't think of anything else off hand. If nobody else has any ideas maybe remove and reinstall if your FF is up-to-date.

@Alibrahim, welcome to MajorGeeks. Oma is an advanced user and would know if the program was installed, firewall didn't block the installation. I'm sure MGs appreciates your enthusiasm but best to slow down a little, the owners take their tech forums very seriously. A researched/calculated guess is better than a stab in the dark. *smiles*

Thanks Cat. However the links are talking about NETwork Assistant add-on which I don't have either in Addons or in Plugins. But I do have some other NETwork stuff in Plugins and these could be disabled from what I can see. Pics included.

I'm going to try to disable one by one in Firefox to see whether one or all of them may resolve the issue. Yes, I use Firefox and IE only for Windows Updates.

I'd like to uninstall all those (3) NET Framework versions 2, 3 and 3.5 in Add/Remove Programs but don't know if that's safe to do so or if I even can remove them? What could happen if I remove them? *sigh*

I do have a LAN connection with my ISP, no router and only one computer.

Perhaps I should have posted in the Network forum?

    Thank you.

Only MS plug in I have in common with you is the Windows Presentation one, but if no errors in install I would hold off on the uninstall. If you're getting registry errors maybe not my brightest idea? Everything else is fine?

Will take a longer look the the registry errors.

Thanks Cat for the links etc. Do you have Vista? Perhaps it's an XP issue?

It seems (from reading those links) that ADD/Remove Programs creates them when (updating?), uninstalling etc? Funny, I never saw these ARPcache items in CCleaner prior to installing these NET software programs. Apparently when deleting them they will appear again when one accesses Add/Remove Programs.

Yes, I hope that someone with more knowledge can shed some light on this.

On Vista but just looked my XP SP3 has 3.0 on it, if nobody has any other ideas I will update and see if I get the same...

There's a SP1 for .Net 3.5 Note: about installing KB959209 for known issues after install of the SP1. *scratches head*

Did notice a warning to make sure you have Windows Installer 3.1 prior to installing the SP... wonder if your installer needs updating...

Did you install the SP1 too?

This is what I found: Feb 1/2009: installed Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Family Update (KB 951847)x86 The other 2 versions (2 and 3.0) were installed on the same day as well. So apparently I do have SP 1?

Don't even know if Windows Installer is installed on my machine since Dell had (I presume) everything preloaded on the machine and don't know where to find it. Searched everywhere on the puter and can't locate it. :-o

Now wondering why I have .NET Framework 3.05 on my XP Home since you don't have it on your XP.

Strange though that when looking some more on the internet, people were already mentioning - at least a year ago - about CCleaner's registry showing ARPcache issues.

    Thanks.

To check your installer version do a search for msi.dll then right click properties it will tell you what version. (its in System32)

On XP SP3 my version is 3.1.4001.5512

Strange just got updates on XP and .Net 3.5 was not there... but did a manual search for updates and came up, so downloading it now.

There is also a Windows Installer 4.5 for XP with SP3 and one for Vista out there.

BINGO!! Found it and have that same version. Thank you! :)

I believe that I downloaded that whole NET package (all 3 versions) in one shot. Now I'm sorry I did because I don't think I need them all because I'm no web developer or whomever it is for. Was shocked to see the total of MB's! Good luck Cat.

Will check that one out hrlow. If installing 4.5, would I have to remove the older version because with Microsoft I never know. Thank you.

Just a test I did right now. I scanned for registry issues with CCleaner prior to accessing the Add/Remove Programs. No issues found. Immediately after accessing the Add/Remove Programs I scanned again with CCleaner and wouldn't you know it..... the same list of issues comes up showing in CCleaner. DUH!! Didn't even do anything else, no removal of programs or anything at all!!

Therefore it's definitely the access of Add/Remove Programs that causes the list of registry items to appear in CCleaner!!

However, I don't know the connection and how to fix it, if it can be fixed! All I know the problem started some time ago.

    Back to square one....

Have you ever tried a third party Add/Remove program?
I use AbsoluteUninstaller that even removes the registry items for the program being removed.
I believe that RevoUninstaller (another good one ) has the same feature.

  21. oma

    oma MajorGeek

Yes, I've used Revo Uninstaller in the past (at least over 2 months ago or more) in the advanced feature but that never produced a similar list as these ones in CCleaner. As I wrote previously, just by accessing the Add/Remove Programs without doing anything else produces this list in the CCleaner registry "scan for issues".

It takes a little while before all programs appear in the Add/Remove Programs. This has never happened in the past, just for the past few months and prior to that didn't get then those listings in CCleaner either.

I'm stumped as to why! :confused

    Hi Oma

First off update CCleaner to latest one at build 2.19.900 now and re-run.

Also are you in the admin account or a limited user account when running CCleaner, run from admin account as limited wont have access to areas of registry.

You can uninstall .Net fine and only issue will be software that relies on it not working but maybe uninstall all .Net from add/remove and then re-run Ccleaner and clear out all reg entries (need to as you know run the reg cleaner until nothing shows) then install latest version of .NET

I have had in the past issues with re-occuring registry entries and this is an issue with CCleaner over windows, but this was removed by installing latest versions of CCleaner.

    Thanks Halo.

Installed the newest version of CCleaner and it didn't fix the problem.

Removed all 3 .NET Framework from Add/Remove Programs, ran CCleaner and removed all registry issues.

Accessed Add/Remove Programs and ran CCleaner's registry. It came up EMPTY this time!!

Installed .NET Framework 3.5 as per your link and it installed all 3 versions, just like I had before.

Ran CCleaner and same problem in registry, only this time it added .NET Framework v 1 as missing dll's. I removed that version on Feb 1 prior to installing 3.5 .NET Framework on that date.

Do you think it's best to install .NET Framework version 1 and delete the others once again? If so, where can I find version 1?

Or should I, can I remove versions 2 and 3 and leave .NET Framework 3.5 as the only one installed?

    Thank you Halo.

PS: running under my name and as administrator.

Forgot to add a pic to show .NET Framework 1 etc. As you can see there are lots more entries in CCleaner than before since it never showed anything for .NET Framework 1. Sorry! :-o

    Hi Oma

Could try just having .Net 3.5 only installed, but this looks more like a CCleaner issue in not maybe excluding portions of the ARPCache, basics are its AddRemovePrograms so this cache is recreated each time you click Add/Remove, hence those listings disapeared when uninstalled.

Seems to be an XP issue only as I read up on this with Ccleaner and ARPCache on their forums as not noticed it personally.

If you remove those entries in the registry cleaner part of CCleaner then rescan again do they show up again? if not try this and open add/remove wait for it to populate and then close it and then open CCleaner and rescan, do they show again?

Personally I wouldnt be too bothered about these and its shown in removing all .Net versions that this is a CCleaner issue, maybe worth emailing their support over this.

.Net 3.5 SP1 installed w/o a hitch, it updated everything from 2.0 up and installed two KBs under .Net 3.5 SP1, you can check if the hotfixes were added by looking in your add and remove programs under 3.5 SP1. But with the same version of CC, installer, OS and .NET it does not happen... I tried but no matter what I do no ARP entries.

this should help explain the .NET requirements

    http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2009/04/20/9557946.aspx

Like Halo said don't think it's .NET maybe an adv. setting in Ccleaner or a security setting?

Ideas are: clear the ARP cache, it's setting you have in security, did you change any of Ccleaners advanced settings?

try cleaning the ARP Cache, directions below.

Thank you Halo. When I scan for issues in CCleaner and delete them and rescan, these items will not show up.

What you're saying about CCleaner in that it may not be excluding portions of the ARPcache is probably correct. Funny though, when I had .NET Framework 1.1? there was never an issue with these ARP thingies in CCleaner.

I've posted on CCleaner's forum because I couldn't find their support link. Hopefully, someone will post back.

  28. oma

    oma MajorGeek

Thank you Cat. You lucky Cat in that you didn't experience any issues re ARP cache!! LOL From what I understand ARPcache and ARP Cache are 2 different issues?

  29. oma

    oma MajorGeek

Well, someone posted back and put some links in my post, that's it. Read those links already. Since CCleaner is free I doubt if they will do anything about it, more so when/if it appears to affect XP only.

What seems to be working is to untick the "installer" box in CCleaner's registry "scan for issues". Tried it out and it seems to be working for now. Of course, doing it this way would not delete them, just ignoring them.

Doing it this way, I can do a monthly cleaning by ticking that installer box instead of having to do this every few days or so.

Okay, there seems to be a misunderstanding what ARPCache is and ARP Cache. I'm sorry that I put it wrong in the title of the thread. It should have been ARPCache.

Halo got it right. Here's a link that explains the difference.

    http://superwin.com/arpcache.htm

    Partial Quote:
PS: I did get a reply by email but see that it has been removed. It concerned the ARP Cache and not ARPCache.

BTW: I'm not downloading the ARPCache viewer that is promoted in the above link.

    Hi Oma

Cheers for the update and knew which one you where refering too as the screenshot of the location in ccleaner highlighted this (app management was the clue for me), as this only seems to affect XP as your research has come to bareout I just have a feeling that they are not actively developing the app for XP and concentrating on Vista and likely Win7, just a theory, which will have ccleaner not keeping up with changes per Service Pack, just wonder how long this has been going on for was it an issue for some in RTM, SP1, SP2 or SP3.

But your workaround is best option.

    Hi Halo,
According to a moderator on CCleaner's forum:
    and this one:
(PS: I won't exclude ARPCache in CCleaner due to what he says in that it will fill up with old gunk. I will just put the tick back in the "installer" box monthly to clean out the registry monthly with CCleaner and untick it again after.) The pic below is from the same poster.

    Hi Oma

Cheers for info, kinda strikes me that its a bug they are never going to fix, curious, but as you say just unticking is best option over excluding.

Hi Halo, I've got a hunch that that the ARPCache is just too complicated for CCleaner's programmers? Additionally, CCleaner is free so no incentive to tackle it. Especially now that XP is on it's last legs.
