I recently downloaded a legitimate game from Yahoo games called Farm Mania. Upon trying to install I received an alert from McAfee stating that Artemis!6492467B09D3 & GameVance has been quarantined. I had this trojan before and ended up having to reformat my computer and really do not want to go this route again as I have a lot of stuff that is not backed up.

I ran Hijack This and Hijack Free 2 and also WIPE. I am not very literate when it comes to registry items and do not want to delete something that will further mess up my computer.

Attached are my logs from HiJack This and WIPE.

Is there anything else I can do? Do I need to do anything? The last time I had this trojan, it locked up my whole computer. I couldn't get online or into any of my programs without a userid and password. It took me 3 days to figure out how to reformat the hard drive.

I have read the READ ME forum and did everything that it said to do.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Since this posts I ran ComboFix and Anti-Malware. When I installed these two programs, McAfee quarantined two more, different, Artemis Trojans. Artemis!7E991BABFAC8 came with Anti-Malware and ComboFix. Why do I keep getting these?

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Artemis is just a new technology (according to McAfee). The say
I believe that all you may be getting is reports from the technology that is finding things that they are just assigning numbers to and that is what results in Artemis!6492467B09D3 This is not a known malware problem, it is an artificial name the McAfee has made up that has no meaning to anyone but them internally. Based on your second message that stated you saw messages again when you installed/ran Malwarebytes and ComboFix, it just sounds like another case of false positives from McAfee. They don't seem to know what is going on in the malware removal world or don't care since they always get in the way of programs that are used to remove the malware that they miss. Perhaps this is even on purpose since these tools can remove what they cannot and it shows their inadequacies. Sorry but that's the facts.

If you attach a log that shows what exact files/folders or registry keys are being detected, we could tell you more specifically since the name Artemis!6492467B09D3 is totally useless.

Also logs from HiJackFree and Wipe are of no use to us. If you want to check your PC for malware, then run our cleaning procedure: READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide You said you did everything in it but that is not true. If you had, you would have attached the logs as requested and you would know that we specifically stated not to attach HijackThis logs.
