    Hiya

Please go gentle with me, this is my first post and I have no real clue as to what you have just had me do with the READ & RUN ME FIRST thingy.

My computer has recently started running extremely slowly, things on the internet are taking forever to open. We have McAfee Internet Security and it runs scans regularly, however it has started picking up Artemis Trojans everyday or every other day, but only when we run the full scan as opposed to the quick scan.
This week related, but unrequested pages are opening on the internet, and over the last 2 days whenever I restart the computer My Documents automatically opens as well.

I did everything asked in the above document, however, here are the issues that I encountered.

1 After running mb.exe it prompted me to reboot and the I had the following message

    Error loading c:\WINDOWS\duicol.dll
The specified module could not be found.

2 During combofix the computer asked to reboot, and then I had to restart combofix.

3 During the running of MGTools I had the message

ProcessDll.exe - Common Language Runtime Debugging Service
Application has generated an exception that could not be handled
    Process id=0x4da0 (19872)
    Thread id=0x4c90 (19600)

The choices it then gave me were Terminate or Debug.

I have reinstated the firewall and McAfee to come back online, but can turn them off again if necessary.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, but please could it be idiot proof because as I say - none of this makes much sense to me!!!

    Thanks

Do not worry! My instructions will be clear and concise. Just take your time following them and relax. :)

This error message is explained here. Error message type 4 Using MGTools

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    c:\windows\Statebas.bin
    c:\windows\Mbakusobogis.dat
    Folder::
    c:\documents and settings\HP_Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\gogqknxtf

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Now run Ccleaner (Not the registry section, merely the cleaner)

Run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Is it STILL detecting artemis?

    Hiya

Thanks for the new instructions - they were indeed idiot proof!!

Have attached the file as requested.

Had the same error messages running MGTools as before - type 4 - so MGlogs1.zip is before I downloaded and ran the dotnetfx.exe file and MGlogs.zip is after. However, I did still have the error message after I had run the dotnetfx.exe file. Should I have saved it to somewhere specific?

I have run a full scan on McAfee Internet Security this afternoon and the results are as follows:

    Item
    Threat
    File Path

    A0034161.sys
    Patched-SYSFile.d (Trojan)
    C:\System Volume Inofmation\_resore{D8696F73-2D76-412A-A981-4300C43EF86F}\RP310

    Av-test.txt
    EICAR test file (Virus)
    C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Owner\Local Settings\temp

Thanks for your help, I hope we can sort this out!!!

Don't know if it is related, but McAfee just froze on me when trying to exit it after the scan?!?!

Sorry, if that is irrelevant, but as I said before I don't really know what I am doing, so I'll leave it up to you to judge!!!

    Thanks

Run Ccleaner (Not the registry section, simply the cleaner.)

This will be addressed when I have you run final steps. :)

From what I have read, no, it does not seem to matter.

Also delete all files in the below bold folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Thanks Kestrel13!

Everything has stayed clear now for a few days so I think that you have solved it!!! Excellent.

Thank you so much for help - I would have been lost without it.

    :)
