"As You Hear It" Recording

I recently got a new computer built with 64-bit Windows 7. It's off the board audio is Realtek High Definition Audio.

In all previous incarnations of computers and MS OS's they have always come with Realtek Audio.

In the past I have used a program called Polderbits to record "What you hear" and have never had any problems. I went to install it today and got the message, "No recording sources available. Connect audio equipment to computer and start recorder again".

When I went to the Control Panel-Sound, under the recording tab it gave me two options for recording with Realtek--a microphone and a line in, neither of which is plugged in.

I have never recorded from either of those devices before-it has always been off the on-board sound card. But this doesn't even acknowledge it's existance.

Can some one tell me what is going on and what I need to do to resolve the problem?

    Thanks-

First thing you should do is go back to the 'recording devices' menu. Right click and make sure that 'show disabled devices' has a check mark next to it.

If that gives you what you're looking for, you're in business. If not make sure you have the latest drivers for your sound card. If that still doesn't do the trick, then you're in the same boat I'm in.

Usually the problem isn't finding the software to record, it's getting the computer set up so that any software can be used.

If my earlier suggestion didn't end up solving your problem than most likely it's either because your sound drivers aren't working properly/correct or that the sound card, even with proper drivers, was designed in a way to not allow such a function.

It took me a lot of digging to find the proper driver for my sound card on this old motherboard, mostly because the sound card wasn't listed properly, or was just listed generically. Even the device manager had it listed only as 'High Definition Audio,' until I got the proper driver.
