Is there anyway to reverse the information in a registery key back to the original.
It seems to me that this must be encrypted from an original string of information.
I am sure you must have a "encryption key" to do this but possibly there is a way to get back to the original. i.e. some application.

i.e. like using the scientific calculator. by putting in an original string and then clicking hex this is converted.

Apologies if I have totally missed something.

This is why you get so many warnings about backing up the registry before making changes.

The only thing I can think of that might help your situation is to perform a system restore to a time before the change.

In the future, backup any registry key you want to change by doing the following in the registry editor:

    1. Select the key or value you wish to change
    2. Select the 'File' menu
    3. Select 'Export'
    4. Save the .reg file

This creates a file for you that you can double-click to revert the key or value back to the original state.

    Hi Thanks for your reply.
I am not sure you understood my question.

I am trying to get a registry key reversed back to its original text.
is it in code i.e. does it have an encryption key or is there a standard way of getting the information in a long key reversed to the original.
For example here is a key.
    4cef3940db29ade3edd3ceb6b26416b1632fbbe1120fcb8bb69ac78814c28e72

is there an application that can reverse this.

    Regards

I understood. Have you tried a system restore, as per the suggestion?

This should revert windows core system files (hopefully including the registry) back to the date you've selected. (Choose one before the change)

This is the only means I can think of since you don't have a .reg file backup, and don't know what the value SHOULD be.
