aspire m5100 rear audio jack

Ok i got a huge problem that just happened a few days ago.m I got a new computer about 2 weeks ago. Its an Aspire m5100 from acer. Really good pc. Well 2 days ago the rear audio jack all of a sudden quit working. All i hear is a high pitch noise but just no sound. The front audio jack on the other hand still works. On the back of the pc there are a couple audio jacks for surround sound but i only have 2.1 speakers so i onyl need the green one which is the only one that quit working. I tried the other audio jacks like the black one and they still work. The audio jack was working. The pc came with vista but i downgraded to winxp home and installed the drivers properly and since everything was working it cant be something i did. The pc is a amd quad core with 3 gigs ram and an ati radeon hd 2600 Pro. Ill try anything to fix this. Im just hoping its not a hardware problem caus ei dont really wanna send this into acer and wait a month.

If your other audio jacks are working properly, then it is more than likely hardware.

BTW, switching OS"s may have voided your warranty.

 

Ok i know im late but whatever, I contacted acer and no me installing a legal copy of xp does not void the warranty. We are taking the pc in to the source by circuit city, where we bought it, to ship it back to acer and get it fixed. I figured id try one last time here to get it fixed. Im sure now though that its a hardware problem cause the rest of the onboard audio jacks are going crazy. The realtek program that tells me when a sound device ie speakers is unplug/pluged in constantly tells me that a mic and whatever is pluged in when nothing is pluged in. I wish it was software but it doesnt look like it. Any Tips?

 

What happened to me last post. I can only read mine and the person who posted after me and it says someone posted today but i cant read that one and the other one i posted today. OK now i can read it but it still says someone posted something new but i cant see it.
