Asset Tracking Software

Just wondering if anyone knows of any FREE software to track IT assets... I'd like something that can be run over the network (web based would be GREAT), and preferably a SQL backend. I have approximately 500 PCs to keep track of and I'd like to include the following information:

Name of employee it's assigned to
Deptartment of individual
MOBO model
Video card model
Monitors (up to 3)
MAC addresse (up to 3)
Hard drive size and type (EIDE, SATA, etc.) (up to 2)
Amount of RAM installed (specify whether it's DDR, SD, ECC DDR, etc)
Serial number

A time stamp of when an entry was last modified would also be pretty nice.... I also keep track of switches, hubs, externaJust wondering if anyone knows of any FREE software to track IT assets... Unfortunately, the VAST majority [read: just about all] of the type of "business related" comprehensive computer related "Asset Tracking Software" that you are looking for are actually very expensive; particularly for managing the software assets of upwards of 500 computers.

By and large software solutions for tracking multiple-user IT assets are available only as trial versions and/or 'paid-up-front' shareware versions [not freeware]. And even the corporate/business "trial" versions are generally limited by time and/or decreased functionality until you decide to upgrade and purchase the $hareware editions.

For example there are programs available out there on the web like the EVEREST Corporate Edition which features an Audit Manager that may do what you want however it is not free [they charge on a per user basis]. You can click here to get an idea of the feature set of EVEREST Corporate Edition

There are some freeware software products such as Belarc Advisor which offer a comprehensive scan and detailed profile of an individual user's installed software and hardware and produce an asset chronicle webpage detailing all about your PC's contents, networking capabilities, etc. - but these types are almost always available only as freeware and are solely for the "individual" HOME user. The Belarc Company does not permit use of the Belarc Advisor for any commercial purposes.

However, Belarc does offer some charitable organizations a license to use the Belarc Advisor at no cost, under certain conditions. If this applies in your case - you should send them information about the charity, a URL and the number of PCs and servers to Belarc Email: info@belarc.com

You might get lucky by painstakingly searching Google however, I doubt it. Many freeware products EULA's [license agreements] specifically do not allow for - or even outright forbid - commercial use; particularly the type of comprehensive software for tracking multiple-user IT assets over a network that you wish to obtain.

Google isn't the place to look for free software! You'll get all kinds of links to "FREE" porn, or FREE downloads trial version software, and it becomes a headache.
