    Hi ,

I am noobie to posting on this great site but have been here may time gathering usefull info to help me solve may a problem ..

The problem i'm having at the moment involves an asus eee pc 901 windows xp version..

now this netbook works fine when the adapter is plugged in ..
but the battery does not show in the windows power section in control panel and there is no battery light on the netbook its self .. it also works when there is no battery plugged in when just using the adapter .. it just will not work on the battery alone .. now i'm thinkin if the battery was dead or just not charging then surley this would show up in the battery section in power option in the control pannel ??
i have seen many problems with the eee pc's regarding battery and power supplies etc but cant seem to find any real answers ..
basilcly i dont want to buy a new battery if its a prob with the board or i bios situation etc ,
maybe i diode or somthing has blown thats preventing any knowledge of a battery being connected ??..

if anyone has had a similar problem or know of a soloution any help would be greatly appreciated .

    thank you

On my 701, the battery light turns orange if it is charging, otherwise it stays unlit. Does your model have an orange light or a flashing red one. (There are more than two dozen models and I have a hard time remembering how each unit works).

If orange and it stays unlit with the battery in and the power connected. It is either fully charged or completely dead/flat.
If your netbook doesn't operate on battery alone, this is another indicator that the battery can't hold a charge.

You might want to head over to the eeepc users forum and ask other 901 owners.

thanks PLODR .. i have no idea what colour the battery indicator light is as i was given the netbook in this condition the thing looks in mint condition and has the case and warrenty card etc .. but this is the only fault .. at the min i'm reinstalling windows to see if it had any effect on how the battery responded .. now i'm havin trouble doing that as i'm getting the "cant find such a file in windows xp pro show the path type error which is D:\i386 etc but is askin upon every file .. ( i think this is because i'm installing from an external cd drive .. when i think a usb drive maybe the way forward ? (nlite) anyway thats a seperate matter for the time being .. lol )
i'll pop over the eee user forum and post same question see what response i get ..

the model i have is a black 901 16gb thats all the info i have really

    cheers

Here's a chart and the 901, if windows came on it was supposed to have a 12GB ssd.
http://event.asus.com/eeepc/comparison/eeepc_comparison.htm (I think it had a primary 4GB and a secondary 8GB ssd but it sounds like yours might be different).

I think there were some specialized version of the 901 because I think I heard about a 901GO. I'm not sure what that is and it might have only been available in certain countries.
