Asus motherboard

My son has a Asus motherboard with a AMD XP1800+ processor, he has a 30 gig hard drive and went to copy it to a 80 gig which I knew was broke, guess he forgot,, now he has formatted the 30gig and tried to load XP pro back on.

the computer gets to the starting windows and resets the computer and starts over again,, this goes on for hours ( started at 7 AM today and was still doing it at 3PM,,) I am going to download the book for the motherboard as he at 16 yo may had hit a jumper or switch since he is always doing something with it,, He takes it to LAN parties alot and has a large heat sink which i thought may have knocked processor a bit so I have reseated processor,, this computer has worked fine for 1.5 years,

anyone have a suggestion,

i know it may be a little late but i would suggest since he has a large heatsink to transport it horizontally so it won't stress the motherboard as much .. although it could be something else that is the problem, it may be that the large hsf tore up the mobo during moving it from A to B .. what hsf is it anyway?

if the problem was caused by the HDD ... that is gonna be a whole different ball game ... I would use the manufacturers diagnostics to sort that out

 

Well I got to looking at the processor since last year we put a tower heat sink on it and it sits on the processor but not on the edge supports and i think there maybe a crack in the header,, wont know until another processor comes,, figure it is worth a try,
