I went to my local shop to get an 80 wire PATA/IDE cable for my combo drive and I was given a cable that is labeled "ATA 133." He said it would work.

    Is this correct?

The CDROM drive shows up in the second post screen as "ATA 44."

    Is that right?

Yes it will be fine, the number beside it indicates the speed of the data transfer, Mb/s. You combo drive will have a maximum capacity of going 44Mb/s so it will be fine. You've just got a little extra juice if you decide to upgrade. ;)

Both the mobo tech support and the cdrom tech support said that it should have reported higher (100) and could not tell me why it was reporting 44.

    I am returning the board.

You've lost me, in your first post you stated that you went to a shop and bought a "80 wire PATA/IDE cable" for your combo drive. Now you're returning your "board"?

It's strange that the Motherboard tech and the CDROM tech both told you it would transfer faster, someone's telling piggys. Did you ask, or did they say anything to you about a possible BIOS flash? Or any kind of update for the controllers?

Go and check the CDROM specs, or give me a link to them, so I can see what data transfer it claims to be able to make. The specs won't lie. And some information on your motherboard. If the motherboard can't go any faster than 44Mb/s then your CDROM won't either and vice versa.
