JimLL I can't follow the rules

XP Pro, SP3, current updates, Comodo, A^2, Lenovo T60p Dual CPU - 2.1 ghz, 15.6" screen, 3 Gb computer memory, 3 cent operator memory

I have ATF-cleaner, but I'm not sure I want to use it.

Apparently if you don't know what all the temp folders are for you could get in trouble removing them. (Been there, done that.) So, you need to know all about temp files. (That is really wonderful, right?)

    I'll start with one question.

Why do developers put permanent stuff in tem or temp folders? Isn't that foolish?

I have not used ATF-cleaner but, as far as I can tell, the temporary folders ATF-cleaner cleans are the ones containing temporary Internet files, not files in any Temp folders created by a non-browser program installed on your computer.

Anyway, if you're still concerned about using it, I suggest using CCleaner instead of ATF-cleaner.

The Temp folders aren't actually Removed. The files In Them are deleted.
If something is stored in a Temp folder, then, by definition, it is temporary and not permanent.
So you won't loose anything really important like that.

I use ATF cleaner occasionally with Win XP.
The items I Do Not select are:
    • Cookies
    • History
    • Prefetch

Cookies can be cleared from within the browser Settings or Options and I don't want to loose my browsing History.

Cleaning the Prefetch folder is one of those False internet things thats been going around for a long time.
The claim is that it will boost performance and help make Programs load faster.
The truth is that Windows removes old unused entries periodically anyway.
If you delete everything, the list has to be built up again and the First time you load a program again,
it will load Slower because it is not in the Prefetch folder anymore.
