ATI 4800 series

I have a ASUS M2N-E SLI motherboard with a single ATI 4870 Graphic card...
i installed the drivers tht came with the card naturally, after removing my old nvidia display driver (but leaving the nforce chip driver on as i was told to do so) and i get graphical problems with media player, limewire and more recently and disturbing the company of heroes world builder (map maker)... the only way to describe the problem is... ya know when you dont have a graphic driver on.. and you try and move a page about and the refresh rate is really slow and un responsive... well all the above programs run like that... where as the games run perfectly... ive tried changing ati drivers... but no luck :cry

* worth mentioning... media player is only a problem when the visualisations are on.. if i turn them off it works fine...
