well I'm trying windows xp media center on a dell dimension 4500.

1.8 ghz p4, 384 mb ram, and storage doesn't really matter

the tv tuner card I have is an ATI all in wonder 8500 with the nice AV in/out, s-video in/out attachment.

so this card clearly has a tv tuner on it and I can't get it to work.

Media center refuses to recognize the darn thing and for some reason mythbuntu won't start up in a live session on this computer.

trying to make a free pvr with added functions, currently have everything wired to the dimension and have my very dated tv connect through AV through the attachment

any help would be more than appreciated,
    -Tyler

do you currently have the most up to date drivers for the card installed?
found the user's manual, while browsing

does it have coaxial input? do you have it connected? it's older, so it won't support digital over the air signals, but should work for basic cable.

from the user manual I have basic cable going into the catv in and I have no monitor connected but I did use the nifty attachment to use AV out on my TV.

the driver is up to date but from some google searches it seems this card is not supported by windows xp media center. but I think there might be a work around.

possibly a third party driver could solve this issue

and I hate to be a picky one but the ATI multimedia center just doesn't appeal to me, even though it would most likely work,

you can take a look at omega for alternative drivers.

also, i noticed that when you choose windows media center on ati's site, it doesnt list drivers for your card.
