If memory serves correct, It used to be that ATI cards really didnt work to well with linux- meaning if they did work it seemed like they always required a lot of effort

Im wondering- with perhaps the 2 more common distros- Ubuntu and Fedora, How do the ATI 4000+ series of video cards work these days? would it be a simple "plug in, download/install, reboot, play with desktop effects"? or would it be "plug in, down load, install, enter code, reboot, enter more code, reboot, uninstall, download, reboot, install, enter code"?

You are correct but ATI release the drivers to Open Coding and NVIDIA did not....

EnvyNG is the key if you cannot solve it otherwise. :major

so then, I should have no problems getting a ATI 4000+ seris card, and using the ATI drivers?

I honestly do not know if the ATI cards would work. I do know that prior to 8.10 I had to use Envy or download the drivers from NVIDIA to enjoy all features of my card.

Envy supports NVIDIA and ATI cards on Ubuntu.
