My mother has a Toshiba satellite A105 S4084 that was having trouble, so I decided to do a restore. Unfortunately the restore disk that came with it (used computer from cousin.) was just a general xp disk and didn't have the drivers for the laptop.

So we called toshiba and got the "toshiba recovery and applications flash drivers" disk.

Here is the weird part. The laptop currently has windows xp installed on it, but many things (internet, usb storage) won't work due to the lack of drivers. However the CD drives recongizes and can run the old windows xp restore disk, as well as any other CD, such as the warcraft 3 installation disk.

However, when I put in the restore disk I got from toshiba, it won't work. Double clicking the CD drive brings up an empty window, as does right click -> explore. Right click -> properties says "Free Space: 0" "Used Space: 0" "Capactity: 0".

The directions say to hold down C at start up to boot from CD drive, doing that does nothing with toshiba's restore disk, but works with the old windows xp disk.

Likewise I can't use f12 or w/e it is to boot from CD during start up.

This made me think that Toshiba's CD was borked, how ever when I put it in another computer it worked fine.

    Essentially the problem is:

Toshiba's restore disk does not work in laptop.
Laptop can read and run every other CD I've tested.
Toshiba's restore disk will run fine in another computer.

I'm really at a loss for what to do.
Any help would be very appreciated.

Have you tried going to the Toshiba web site and manually downloading the drivers?

No internet connection on the laptop, and I can't use a usb drive to move anything over since it can't read the usb drive, so I don't know how to get them over, and the website seems to be missing drivers or something as it only lists 9 for windows xp.

Depend of what XP have you installed.

I hope you installed Windows XP Service Pack 3, because that help too much with laptop drivers.

If using SP3 doesn't work, you might download drivers manually and install basics like "LAN" and "USB", obviously you need to burn them into a CD.

    Download them from this link.

Burn it into a CD as i said and try installing manually. Tell us results!!

Go into the BIOS and set it to boot from the CD.
