ATTENTION: Need info about operating systems

As you read the title you might judge me as an amateur, but honestley I consider to be more of an apprentice. It is hard for me to admit, but I only have a general amount of information in technology, specifically, computing. The reason for that is I just found my place in the world, do you blame me? I'm a highschool freshman and I've just been introduced to the amazing world of technology. I'm totally comitted and devoted, and to prove it I've already become an outkast.
I need your help. I consider you to be my mentors or masters. All I ask is for you to help me with my IT project. I'm supposed to do a presentation on operating systems, and I have no idea where I should start! The world of operating systems is so huge that makes this project a little hard. All I need is for you to tell me what I should include or leave out.
I really need your support.

 

In the beginning, there was IBM, sporting MS-DOS.

In the present and maybe? end, there is Microsoft dominating the world with Windows, current version Vista.
