I know about that feature Mimsy but I read when I installed PM for the 1st time that an automatic update is not happening yet. Did PM update automatically or did you have to go to their site to download the latest version and install it over the older version? Thanks.

also, wanted to comment that my wife tried palemoon the other day. her words: " this palemoon thing runs slow"

not sure what or how she figured that one out. She mostly uses ie8.

It didn't work for me. I have it set to automatically notify me, but it never did. When I manually told PM to check for an update though, it immediately found and applied it.

my wife's not much of a beta tester. I will wait for the full version to be released.

as for palemoon, i didn't notice an auto update, but i just clicked help/check for updates. It didn't work in previous versions, but it's working now.

dang, cant edit last post. I noticed i said auto update in my previous post. i guess manually checking for updates isn't auto update. however, i don't believe that the option to check for updates manually worked previously. it was there, but did not work, it's working now.

Has anyone tried dolphin 3D browser.

Someone told me about it so I just downloaded it to try it and its quite fast and packed full of features that any borwser could think of.

Got a built in mp3 player (windows media player) also got a wordpad, paint, calendar and various other things.

I would say give it a try.

    Backing up Palemoon profile:

I realize that this thread is almost two weeks old now, but I just tried this
with Karen's Replicator on Win XP and it worked fine .

    Source for Win XP:

    C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Application Data\Moonchild Productions\Pale Moon\

    Source for Vista / 7:

    C:\Users\{user name}\Application Data\Moonchild Productions\Pale Moon

    check: "Include Sub-Folders"
    file filter: All Files (*.*)

Of course {user name} may simply be Owner.

Thank you. Great little program. :) I installed it and tried it.

Now I have a question for you. Where do you think is the best place to put the destination folder? I always backed up FF with Mozbackup and have its destination to it's own folder in My Documents. Therefore I did same with PM. Pity that Karen's duplicator doesn't have a restore feature.

Now the question: In case it is necessary to replace PM's profile with a created backup in My Documents, how do I put the backup in the source folder? Playing with drag and drop, copy and paste doesn't work for me. Copy and pasting the entire CONTENTS perhaps?

    TIA!!

Re: ATTN: Firefox users! Want a faster browser?

Use a sync program rather than a backup program, such as Microsoft's Synctoy or SyncBack, and set up a profile for backing up in each direction. These can be automated via Task Scheduler and/or run manually from a desktop shortcut.

I've used SyncBack free with Task Scheduler for years and never have to give a thought to data backup unless I want to add new or delete existing folders, and backups are never more than 12 hours old.

Re: ATTN: Firefox users! Want a faster browser?

The FEBE extension/add-on for Firefox works well in Pale Moon too. It can backup/restore individual items such as extensions, bookmarks, etc. Or it can backup/restore the entire profile. Even if you backup the entire profile you can restore individual items. Backups can be done manually or on a schedual. You can also set the number of backups to be kept before FEBE starts over writing the old ones.

I have two seperate FEBE backup folders(F:\Archives\Backups\Fx_FEBE and F:\Archives\Backups\PM_FEBE) on the external HDD, one for Firefox and one for Pale Moon.

Re: ATTN: Firefox users! Want a faster browser?

@plastidust: Just what I've been looking for and made a backup of PaleMoon already! :celebrate

See, Mozbackup won't back up PaleMoon. Yet it backs up the latest stable version of FF 4.0 Beta 7 which I have now instead of FF 3.6.12

I had forgotten about the Febe addon since I liked MozBackup for its simplicity.

@earthling. Thank you for responding. However what you suggested was not what I was looking for. Will try next time to be more clear in what I need. :)

Re: ATTN: Firefox users! Want a faster browser?

    Hi Oma.
    Happy Thanksgiving!

Sorry it's taken so long for me to respond. I started working on this shortly after I saw
your post but I had to leave to keep an appointment for dinner and after that there were
    phone calls, etc.

It seems that Plastidust's solution is more to your liking,
but I'll answer your questions as pertains to Karen's Replicator.

Karen's Replicator is a nice program but it is not a complete backup solution in that it
does not have a Restore feature. It is sometimes described as a security backup.

Also, I'm not sure, but I think it can not write directly to CD/DVD media. I use
something else to do 'multi session' backup to DVD. Cobian Backup, which is similar,
*may* be able to do that - don't know - never tried it. I have looked at some of the
documentation but so far I can't tell if it can do that.

The destination folder is mostly a matter of personal choice, but you have to consider
whether or not you will be making Other Backups, how that is usually done and which software
you use to do that. I know that some Backup programs have the option to backup the Entire
My Documents folder, either as Full, Incremental or Differential.

One option, which I use with Karen's Replicator, is to have a Master backup folder
*Outside* of My Documents. For example a Folder named OmaBackUp in the root
directory as C:\OmaBackup with sub-folders for each separate backup. So in Karen's Replicator
each folder will be associated with one (or more) specific Job Settings similar to
    what you did with Mozbakup.

To Restore a Profile backup, I just tried this procedure and it worked:
    • cleaned out the Recycle Bin so that it will later contain Only the deleted Pale Moon profile.
    • created a Restore Point just for security purposes.
    • with Windows Explorer, navigate to the Pale Moon profile (as shown earlier) which in
      Windows XP is:
      C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Application Data\Moonchild Productions\Pale Moon\
    • in the Right panel, select Everything inside the \Pale Moon folder and Delete.
With the Default configuration, this sends all of that to The Recycle Bin.
    • navigate to the backup location and Highlite / Copy the entire profile that was inside the \Pale Moon folder.
    • navigate back to the actual Working profile location and Paste what was just copied.

Most people know this, but it is possible to configure deletions so that they are immediate
and Not sent to the Recycle Bin. It is very easy to rest the default behavior to send deletions to the Recycle Bin.
For info on how to configure the Recycle Bin and deletions, see Recycle Bin Overview

A couple of other points, although the FEBE add-on can apparently handle this:
You can create a separate job to backup Bookmarks, which I have done already for Firefox and Opera.

Firefox / Pale Moon make Automatic backups of bookmarks in a folder named bookmarkbackups
which is inside one of the Uniquely Named folders below Moonchild Productions\Pale Moon\Profiles\someUniqueName\

Of course this same process can be used with other things, not just the Pale Moon profile.

    Cheers ;)

Haiz everyone, now I'm being really lazy now cuz I don't wanna read all 115 posts to find out, but what makes PaleMoon so different to FF, what have they removed/added/modified etc?

Re: ATTN: Firefox users! Want a faster browser?

Removal of accessibility features, parental controls and ActiveX functionality support code seem to be the three main things. "How different is this browser from Firefox?" is a good explanation of the differences in more detail. About 3/4 page read.

Re: ATTN: Firefox users! Want a faster browser?

    Hi mjnc,

Hope you had a great dinner yesterday! Please don't apologize for not posting immediately when seeing a question. All of us are volunteers, many of us are busy and have more than MG to tend to. :) So I thank you for your explicit reply!!

For now I am using Karen's Replicator and also Febe for backups. :-D Time will tell what I like best.

Karen's backs up the entire profile folder of PaleMoon which consists of 2 profile folders etc. One was put there by the PaleMoon's migration tool I think. One has to doubleclick on them to see the contents.

Febe as far I can see backs up only 1 profile folder and one sees the content of the folder in the destination folder. It lists them there individually such as e.g. bookmarks{default}.json and extensions. No doubleclicking necessary here.

Confused yet by my explanation? :-o

BTW: I just made 2 pics re above so you can see what I'm trying to 'splain. :-D

Thank you, Oma. Yes, the dinner was very nice. :)

Your 'splainin was fine but the pictures do help. :cool

I agree about the \Profiles(2) folder. It seems that it was made by the migration tool.
I just Deleted that to see if it has any affect on the bowser's performance.
    So far, can't tell.

I haven't installed FEBE yet but it seems fairly flexible and easy to manage.

Re: ATTN: Firefox users! Want a faster browser?

Honestly, I have found NO differences. None. Except that PaleMoon is faster on the whole than FF: from a cold reboot, PaleMoon opens faster; individual web pages open faster; web pages loaded with images and pictures open faster; even my email opens faster (and I have several email address, I use Gmail, Yahoo mail (including their "submails" like ymail and rocketmail), HotMail, and others); etc. The main reason I started this thread was because of the obvious and immediate increase in speed over Firefox, that I felt compelled to let other people know about it. All the plug-ins that worked with my FF install have worked flawlessly with PaleMoon; even going to the FF Persona site and using custom 'personas' (aka "skins") work perfectly. Again, the only difference that I have noticed in the month-and-a-half since I switched from FF full-time to PaleMoon full-time is the speed of PaleMoon; on my PC, it's about 20% faster on the whole; certain things are a bit faster, other things are about the same as FF, but nothing is slower. Of course, there are numerous technical and programming differences, and these are outlined in the VERY informative link posted above by plastidust (thanks for the info! good stuff!). But for the average home user, all I can say is that it's faster. . . . noticeably faster.

(oh yeah . . . another HUGE difference between FireFox and PaleMoon: the icon/logo! roflmao LOL )

One other thing... the PaleMoon Migration Tool link that I provided in post #1 seems to be dead for whatever reason.... for those interested, use this link instead:
PaleMoon Migration Tool (moves all your Firefox bookmarks, plug-ins, settings, etc, in to your new PaleMoon install)
