Does anyone know or use an Audio Controller-Manager?

I'm not sure what this type of software would commonly be named under but I thought Audio (Sound) Controller-Manager would be close. The problem is that the 'volume control' program defaulted on windows xp is not sufficient - it doesn't provide any detail information, such as the Hz or kHz that the "volume" was set to. It doesn't have any numbers and I need numbers.

Someone who does music-related activities would know a freeware for this kind of program.

This peaked my interest and I've spent the past 15min or so poking around the web trying to find some freeware for this. It would be great to have this as a simple volume control in the system tray that displays the sound levels as you slide it up or down, and I was unable to find anything. Any of the audio editors here at Major Geeks should be able to provide a level reading on the current volume of a sound, but this would be a pain-in-the-*** to have to launch or open a different app just to check the volume level. I'll keep looking, but in the meantime, look at these:

I'm pretty sure that none of those are exactly what you're looking for, but most are free and maybe one will have a feature you'll find useful. I'll keep looking, so check back in a few hours, or a few days. ;)

anyone know of an addon or extension that does this. i actually want to see the Hz or kHz because that's the unit for sound, and being precise in anything is important

    This is what I use:

    http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Audio/Other-AUDIO-Tools/Volume2.shtml

It opens in Russian (it's portable), so look for the American flag and click on it in the Language tab (2nd from the bottom). That will give you the English version.

This is a great program, but I don't know if it does what you want. There is a meter, and you can adjust the volume with the mouse wheel and other ways, but I don't know about Hz or KHz...

This is a 4 year old thread.

Hz and kHz have to do with the frequency of the sound. A 50Hz sound is a bass note(low frequency) and a 10kHz sound is a medium high frequency note.

Sound pressure or volume is measured in decibels.

    ok

    then decibels it is!

i replaced soundlock with volume2 because it seems to do a lot of nothing i understand.

has a lot of skins and stuff but doesn't show what matters -- db
