Audio device removed

Hi my mom accidently deleted realtek audio from our computer in the add/remove programs and ive been trying to remedy the problem but so far ive had no luck. I was wondering what i needed to do to get sound back on the computer. I have windows XP professional service pack 3 and i could really use help thanks. Also im not that computer savvy so be patient with me

Hi

If you can do the below, we should be able to help you restore the audio

If your PC is one from the likes of DELL, HP, Sony, etc what is the Make and model varient as this will assist us if we need drivers?

If your PC is a home or custom build what is the motherboard make and version?

Download and install Everest to find this info, at times a summary log of your PC can help, to do this

Install Everest and run
Click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next
Choose System Summary Only > Next
Choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for report to generate
Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report, then click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) and click Save (n.b. Save to desktop is best as easy place to find it, use Browse to locate desktop)

Then attach your log to your next post as per these instructions HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

Hi

Cheers for the log from Everest, as you have SP3 we should not need the UAA driver, but if audio still doesnt work after following the below, then please pop back into the thread and let us know, but do tell us what the problem was, if error messages etc adn what they where.

Install the Chipset driver from HERE then reboot, crucial to reboot as the driver only fully installed after a reboot.

Then install the Audio driver from HERE and reboot, then test sound.

Hi David i followed your instructions but had no success. There were no error messages but the sound still didnt work and even after i downloaded everything it still said no audio hardware was found.

Hi

Ok it may seem that more is wrong with the deleted driver than meets the eyes, so try the below and only do so if you are confident in editing the registry (the registry in Windows is not to be messed with lightly and can if you do not follow the instruction exactly, cause the PC to end up not booting or failing) if you are nto confident then see if a relitive or friend is.

You will need to do this as this fools XP SP3 into thinking its SP2 and allow the re-install of the UAA HD Audio Patch as this patch is required before any of the HD device drivers are installed

Goto Start > Run and type in regedit , then click OK.
Click the plus signs in front of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SYSTEM, Current Control Set, Control, and finally, click Windows.
In the right panel you will see CSDVersion.
Right click it, choose Modify.
In the highlighted input window, you should see 300. Change it to 200.
Click OK, close regedit and restart your PC. Windows will now think it is SP2 and allow you to install the Microsoft UAA Driver from HERE and then your Sound Driver from HERE
Make sure to reboot and then test your sound BEFORE, changing the value back to 300.

Then follow the same steps to change it back to SP3. Change the 200 back to 300.
