Audio Kept Cutting Out And Now Not Working

Hey everyone. So the front audio jack on my computer case keeps cutting in and out. A few weeks ago I built a new pc using the case i've had for about 6 years. Sometime after the build when I had used the computer, I would get a notification from the taskbar saying "an audio device has been plugged in" when I had not done anything and headphones were already in. I ignored it. The audio was working fine for a couple weeks. Now today, I log in and find the red x over the volume control and not working. I fiddled with it and finally plugged in another set of headphones in the back. After that, the icon in the sound settings for headphones changed to "default device" with the green check mark. Then it started flickering from that state, to "not plugged in". Then it would stay on for a while and then flicker in and out while I was doing things. Now its not working at all.

Here is the weird thing though. I plugged in some speakers in the back and headphones in the front. I went into Realtek audio manager and have options in settings to (1) make front and rear outputs playback 2 different audio streams, or (2) mute the rear output when the headphones are plugged in. With both speakers and headphones plugged in, and 2 selected, I get sound out of both of them. The headphones icon in the sound settings also disappears.

I have reinstalled and updated the drivers multiple times. I know the front output works but something is not letting windows recognize that something was plugged in. I'm running windows 7 professional 64 bit, have an MSI Gaming H170A pro motherboard with onboard sound and HAF 922 case if that helps.

 

Have a look at the connectors at the audio jacks as wel as the motherboard.
