audio problems

I have been trying to download a replacement for the deleted multimedia audio driver for my windows xp cpu. No matter where i look, I can never find it. PLEASE HELP!!!!!??!!!!!!!! I can't listen to my beloved music anymore.

 

Post a make and model # if your PC is manufactured (Dell, Gateway, HP, etc.) or your motherboard ID, if it is a build. Or even better:
Use Everest to get a report of your system’s hardware, OS, and drivers. Upload the report as an attachment

When Everest is done scanning, click "Report" at the top of the Everest window, click next to get to "Report Profile", select "Hardware related pages", click next, select "Plain Text", click "Finish". Then when it is done processing, click "Save To File". Save it where you want to. (I would use Desktop.)
Click "Go Advanced" in the MG reply box, scroll down a little way until you see "Manage Attachments", click it, browse to your file, click "Upload", and close the window. Then submit the post. You may have to also type something in the reply box, like, "Here's my report.", so that it will submit.

 

You didn't supply nearly enough info for us to help you. Follow musksnipes advice, and read these two stickies:

PS: Next time you need to add a report of that length you should attach it, not post it as you did.

I folowed the directions and i get an error box when i try to install it. The error box reads,"Install Shield Engine (ikernel.exe) could not be installed because it could not be specified. So what is my next step? Thanks in advanced.

 

Which driver isn't installing? The chipset?

 

neither one is installing. and also i need microsoft word again. i went on a deleting spree after my little cousins came over and got my cpu infected.do you know where i could get that from?

 

Now that is info that I could have used earlier.
First, I would reccomend seeing the guys in the Malware Forum here. Run the Read Me completely and then post your logs for them.

Once finished there, I would do a repair install to make sure you didn't remove important files.

should i now go back and try the chipset and driver again?(thanks for restoring the speed to my computer! the malware steps were like a shot in the arm.)i forgot to mention that i dont have my reboot cd's anymore. i have a nasty habit of throwin things away after the first use.is there another way to do this

 

No, not unless you have a restore partition.

Yes, but if there are important files missing from your Windows folders, it may not install.

 

i used to have a hp pavillon computer and this one was a hand-me-down that i got off of my aunt for $100. i can check and see if she has it but i doubt it. can i download it anywhere else?and i cant stress FREE enough as i am a student and cant afford to pay anything extra at this time.

 

No you can't legally download XP for FREE. You may be able to borrow a disc from a friend and try the repair.
There is another way, I believe, using the i386 folder, but that is not something I know much about. Hopefully, someone here does and will see this post. If you don't get an answer soon post a new thread asking how to use the i386 folder to do a repair to your Windows.
