    Halo,
I know this is an old thread, but it's the closest I've seen to my problem.

I'm building/upgrading a PC for my son with a new motherboard, CPU, RAM etc. Using the original HD which contains a working XP SP2 OS.

I'm having a heck of a time with some of the drivers for the new hardware. I've searched the internet for a couple hours and the only places I've SWMIDI.SYS requires a "pay to join" membership.

Can you help me locate the drivers and files I'm looking for?
I've searched driver disks, local files on a couple of my PC's etc.

    The hardware specs:
    MSI K9MM-V motherboard
    AMD Athlon64 X2 4200+ dual-core CPU
    APIDA PC2 6400 800MHz 1GB (x 2) RAM
PNY GeForce 7600GS 512MB APG 8X video card

The MSI mo-board included a CD with drivers; which I have loaded
We do not have the Windows XP Pro disk, although the OS has been activated. Windows asks for the OS disk at start up.

The following hardware seem to have missing drivers
IDE CONTROLLER (not located on the MSI disk)
    UNKNOWN

I need SWMIDI.SYS and the IDE CONTROLLER driver.

    I've attached my EVEREST report.

Thanks for any help you can offer.
    Brent

    Hi Brent

If the IDE Controller is missing and you have one or a few unknowns, then its very likely the chipset driver has not been installed, so I would first install that.

All lastest drivers for that motherboard are here

So install the 4 in 1 drivers then reboot and install the Realtek Audio drivers.

If Windows is asking for the Windows CD at boot then your going to need a Windows CD as its very likely even though its an already activated XP the major hardware change may have changed its PID to Activation code.

Re: Audio System Files Missing - THANK YOU

    Hello,
Thank you very much for your reply. It was very helpful. We were able to locate my son's XP disk. I'll be working on the computer tomorrow and will let you know the results. Hopefully I won't need any further assistance.
    Cheers,
    Brent
