Hi, hoping for a little help with my CD sound. I built the computer about a month ago, and I didn't notice this at first, but after a week or so it started.

I'm using the onboard sound from my MoBo, and sometimes the audio comes out kind or crackly (best way I can describe it). It seems to only be a problem when the audio is coming off a CD, and the CPU is busy (like while playing games).

The CD drive does have audio out connections, but I wasn't sure where to plug this in on my MoBo, or even if I could. The Motherboard does have a set of audio pins, but I beleive these are for front audio connections that my box dnesn't have.

Any advice on what may be causing the Audio burping? I'm not sure what else you may need to know to help me out, but if there is anything else you need, just ask.

There isn't anybody here with any ideas, thoughts, suggestions, or advice?

Guess I'll have to find a board with more knowledgable members...

it could be that you have not installed the chipset drivers for your mobo and are running the drive in PIO mode. This would account for crackling during high cpu usage. Generally you do not need to use the audio connector off the cd drive, it all goes through the 40 pin ribbon cable. Your drive should be running in DMA mode, go into device manager and try to find the settings for your IDE controllers.

    That's right !

Your Optical Drive needs to be on DMA Mode, You can Manually set it up in the Device Manager or download and run THIS

This will set your Optical Drive to DMA Mode

Majinbuu, Hardmarkerin, you guys are da bomb :D

This fixed the problem, no more audio glitches.

This also explains why I was having other issues I was willing to write off (slow install's from CD, unable to play avi files from the disk). Man, you guys made my day.

I did some poking around on the internet. Am I right in assuming that windows switched this setting on me when I tried to rip a heavily scratched CD? Some of the tracks were un-recoverable, but I didn't give up on them easily. Is there anyway I can tell windows to NEVER do this to me again?

thanks again, you guys are the best!!!

I am tring to hook up the front case speaker and mic jacks. The MB does not have the pins clearly marked for the mic hook-up. The speaker pins are not very stright forward either.
