I agree that the people in the stands and sitting in front of TV's have more information to work with than the refs. I think there should be a panel of 3 sitting up someplace to verify the ref's decisions. There were too many wrong calls in this tournament and the means exist now to correct this. As for Zidane, I doubt anything could have justified it, but it was an impressive gesture and the game itself was incredible! What a pace! whew!

Totally agree with you and Rikky in that video evidence and 3rd or 4th Refs plus FIFA officials should be reviewing the footage, it wouldnt slow the game down too much and would remove alot of missed incidents and bad decisions. I did think they in the tournament did in the case of the refs contact with the 3rd offical, hence the earpeice?

*tried to wisper-type in case YOUR HANGOVER is bad abri ;)

    hahahaha

the earpiece I believe was for the 5 refs to communicate with each other regarding offsides decisions, but I'm not sure.

Can't believe what Zidane did. Must be the biggest dummy spit of all time, in soccer, anyhow. He's gone from hero to zero in a split minute. Obviously, he was pretty p*ssed off but he surely he has had enough sledging in his lifetime in soccer to ignore it.

Not only did he leave his team 1 man down, but more importantly, he was in-eligible to partake in the penalty shootout. How much different might the result have been.

    Congrats to Italy.

There are lots of discussion that penalty shootouts should not take place to decide the outcome in the final game.

Suggestions discussed include a complete replay a week later, if scores level after extended time.

Another suggestion is to keep the extended periods going until a result occurs. Boy, that could mean a late night.

Your opinions would be interesting. Bazza

He must have thought it was more important to him than the World Cup. I don't think he'll be a zero, because people do f*** up sometimes and it's a common reaction for people to reflect on their own failings and be forgiving, especially for heros.

The Golden Goal? They've tried that. I'm not sure if that was in the European Cup. An 11 meter shootout isn't much of a win.

l being a Buddhist, personally do not condone violence in all its grotesque forms, physically, mentally or verbally. Zidane should be praised for his footballing genius but as a person, like all of us, he is not perfect. l cannot criticise him for what he did as like most of us, we would've have done the same. Besides, the defender wasn't hurt that badly, unlike the infamous Shoemarker incident in the 70s when he nearly killed the poor French player and he wasn't even booked nor was it considered a foul by the referee!
Zidane, being a foreign national in France; grew up in poverty, must have faced discrimination and prejudice all his life and l am guessing, most of you are white guys with middle class background and will never know the existential anguish he feels. l am a british chinese sometimes l can't even go out into my garden without someone giving me racial insults while walking past. Its easy for people to look and critise humanity but how many of us actually look within and see our own flaws and change for the better?.. mm how about cantana and his kung fu kick? brian clough who punched his own fans? oh and roony with his "ball crushing" kick? actually l find it all very funny..we all deserve what we get...haha thats karma isn't it? om...

That was still one hell of a freakin chest smasher Zidane gave him, and Zidane will go down in history for that, and as one of the few best soccer players in the world.

Sad fact is this goes on in football all the time, prevoked or not, they are the face of football for the young and should behave like professionals.... period, as they are not being good role models..

morpheus ~ that is disgusting treatment you get in your own town/garden, we cannot judge a book by its colour, race or religion I feel as I judge everyone with open eyes colour/race doesnt enter into it for me, but I have been brought up and work in multicultural enviroment...
