Australia, the movie.

The world premiere was held last night in Sydney, NSW. Other simultaneous premieres were held in Darwin, Bowen and Kununurra where the main locations were shot.

Oprah apparently liked it. There is a special Oprah show on OZ TV tomorrow (Thursday) night featuring the 2 main stars.

Our Tourism industry is hoping the movie and associated ad campaign will convince more overseas people to visit OZ. Also they hope more Aussies will tour the big brown land, especially the Kimberlies.

The movie looks like a whole lot of CGI rather than real photography, but the previews they've had running on TV here jumps between scenes idiotically quickly. If it isn't all CGI, it looks like it could be quite impressive.

I think it'll be the first film this year that isn't a remake rolleyes

 

Can't comment on how much CGI in it. Us peasants haven't had the privilege of seeing it yet. :-D Bazza

Apparently 2,000 (20,000?) tonnes of red dirt were dumped on the main street of Bowen so the cattle drive through the town would look authentic.
And all cleaned up afterwards. :-D Bazza

 

Saw the trailer for this last night in the cinema, didn't look the bad. The music was very Australian though

Oprah likes it, and her audience had a sneak preview. Hugh Jackman and Nicole were interviewed by Oprah and she gushed with praise for the film.

If the film takes off in the USA like Oprah's book selections take off, then the film might get the USD$ 150,000,000 investment back, otherwise the backers will have to wait for DVD sales, and Nicole's movie appearances will have flopped again, from a financial point of view. Bazza
