I spent like a month to finish a project on my laptop and now i cant open them!! omg help me!! I was using AutoCAD 2006 to finish them, n then i accidentally deleted the program(not the files though), and then i installed AutoCAD LT 2005, and all the files cant be open. It says "File is not valid". Whats wrong with it?

Speaking with a family member who uses AutoCAD for a living, I have got this news for you:

There is no forward compatibility with AutoCAD, a 2005 version will not open 2006 files. For this reason most professionals using say, the 2010 version, will "Save As" 2007 or whatever to provide as much compatibility as possible with their peers.

Your only hope, and it is slim, is to find a 2006 LT version although you may have limited functionality.

The real solution for you is purchase or recover the 2006 program.

Can you do a System Restore?

If not, have at look at http://www.majorgeeks.com/content/page/mg_search.html?cx=partner-pub-6960825562757852%3A6029691205&cof=FORID%3A10&ie=UTF-8&q=recovery&sa.x=0&sa.y=0&siteurl=www.majorgeeks.com%2F&ref=cipher.freevar.com%2Fbookmarks.html&ss=1848j534104j8&siteurl=www.majorgeeks.com%2F&ref=cipher.freevar.com%2Fbookmarks.html&ss=1848j534404j8

There are several recovery softwares there that you can try...

I hate to tell you but, I've been using AutoCad for over 24 years now and it's always been backwards compatible. Use the SaveAs choice when you go to save and you'll see the different version. The AutoCad drawing format is updated every three years where the software is updated yearly.

They also give you a free copy of AutoDesk Design Review or TrueView to take care of problems like this.

Now, AtutoDesk Revit is NOT backwards compatible in any way, shape, or form but, you can open Revit models with newer versions of Revit, just like you can AutoCad files.
