Is the light version just the new items since last month? I installed the November version, so then all I will need is this December light version. Right?

I typically ignore the autopatcher. But, if you use the lite version, I would say you are safe. But, why not just use windows update, to be really sure?

Originally there were some updates in there that were not on the M$ update site, if I recollect correctly. I do use the windows update site too though.

Some of those updates added to Autopatcher that are not @ WU are for specific issues that some users may have, and may or may not break a fully working machine if installed when not needed.
