The AV Security virus and I'm not sure what else is on my computer. I've completed the Read and Run Me First tests, which are attached. Could someone help, please? RootRepeal gave me the invalid PE image found error, but did do the scan. MG Tools log in next message.

    Thanks.

Hi there and welcome. I am currently reviewing your logs and will get back to you with a set of instructions in the next post I make to you.

    1. Your copy of MalwareBytes is a little outdated.

    • Open up the program
    • Flip to the updates tab
    • Let it update
    • Re-scan
    • Fix anything it might find.
    2. Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    • R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:1054
    • O2 - BHO: AskBar BHO - {201f27d4-3704-41d6-89c1-aa35e39143ed} - C:\Program Files\AskBarDis\bar\bin\askBar.dll

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    3. Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    c:\windows\Rbecoxuba.bin
    c:\windows\Fqivakusadi.dat

    Folder::
    c:\documents and settings\San\Local Settings\Application Data\hvnqudgt
    c:\documents and settings\San\Local Settings\Application Data\grrtcg
    c:\documents and settings\San\Local Settings\Application Data\kjbwtae
    c:\documents and settings\Dennis2\Local Settings\Application Data\klpbcipbb
    c:\program files\AskBarDis
    c:\documents and settings\Dennis2\Application Data\Ykoq

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{201f27d4-3704-41d6-89c1-aa35e39143ed}]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar]
    "{3041d03e-fd4b-44e0-b742-2d9b88305f98}"=-
    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\clsid\{3041d03e-fd4b-44e0-b742-2d9b88305f98}]
    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{4b1c1e16-6b34-430e-b074-5928eca4c150}]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\Webbrowser]
    "{3041D03E-FD4B-44E0-B742-2D9B88305F98}"=-

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    4. Now Run Ccleaner. (Not the registry section, simply the cleaner itself)

    5. Run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also the new log from Mbam.

    6. Tell me now how things are running, please.

Combofix found root activity and wanted to reboot. It hung at the shutting down screen and I had to manually turn off the machine.

Attached are the logs you requested.

    Thanks for your help.

Your logs are now clean. :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Thank you for your help. I do have two other questions.
    1) Could any of this have spread to my external hard drives which were connected and on?
    2) SuperAntiSpyware didn't find anything when it scanned my flash drive, but I did read it can be spread that way.

You can re run MBAM and SAS with your externals connected if you like for peace of mind. Also see this regarding flashdrives:

For the external Hard Drive and a USB stick.

Insert your flash drive before we begin. Hold down the Shift key when inserting the flash drive until Windows detects it to bypass the autorun feature. This will keep the autorun.inf from executing automatically.

Please have all your removable storage devices ready for disinfection.

Download Flash Disinfector by sUBs and save it to your desktop.
    • Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it.
    • Your desktop and icons may disappear. This is normal.
    • It will do a cleanup of removable storage devices, and write a protected Autorun.inf file to help prevent re-infection.
    • Follow any prompts that may appear.
    • The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives including your mobile phone. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.
    • Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
    • There will be no GUI interface or log file produced.
    • Reboot your computer when done.
Note: Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. Don't delete this folder. It will help protect your drives from future infection.

My AVG scan just completed and found 2 infections:
"C:\System Volume Information\_restore{129201FA-B0AC-49B3-96B2-DEB8B91E727B}\RP1492\A0218486.sys";"Virus identified Win32/Patched.DX";"Moved to Virus Vault"
"C:\System Volume Information\_restore{129201FA-B0AC-49B3-96B2-DEB8B91E727B}\RP1492\A0218151.dll";"Trojan horse Generic18.JAU";"Moved to Virus Vault"

The Generic 18.JAU has been coming up as an AVG alert the last few days.

I have removed HiJackThis and MGTools, but not the combofix. When I clicked on it to copy it from the CD (had internet connection problems and burned a CD with the tools from our laptop), I believe it expanded before I got it to the desktop. I did expand it on the desktop as well. Do I need a different removal process now? I know the system restore process will take care of the above infections, but need the combofix answer before I proceed further.

Does this forum recommend using SuperAntiSpyware rather than AVG?

    Thanks.

Try the normal removal process for combofix, let me know how you get on.

No. AVG is an anti virus whereas SAS is just antispyware. You must not replace antivirus with antispyware apps, but can use both AVG and SAS together nicely.

SuperAntiWare found a Trojan on one of my externals. How do I run MB on the external? I haven't found a place to select the drive. Have the purchased version.

Run a full scan instead of a quick scan and then the option should pop up, at least it does in the free version, to select drives to scan.
