Has anyone had problems with Avant Browser crashing lately? I just rebuilt two of my machines with XP Pro and Server 2003 and it's causing some type of memory reference error on both boxes. Strange, I like that pop-up blocker. :)

I have gotten that error before. Check your IE SP level. Avant runs on IE's internals, so try SP1 for IE6.
Also, try disableing the little tray icon, I find that it was troublesome.
If all else fails use another browser with integrated pop-up blocking if thats the feature you want.
    Check out Myie2 or opera.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I'm a fanatical startup manager and tweak my systems so that only the required services and processes load at startup. Those little taskbar icons fear me.

Ran some tests and clean-ups and everything seems to be fine now. Still assessing...

On another note (and related to another of my posts), Real One player crashed my XP Pro box three times last night and this morning I've had 3 critical system errors at startup. I de-installed Real One player last night, but really need the dang thing for a subscription I have to watch racing news. Fortunately XP Pro's error handling seems to be pretty dang efficient. I don't believe I've ever seen a Windows box recover from more than one critical error at startup. Reviewing the logs it looks like Windows cleaned up some registry errors and built some workarounds.

    Have a great weekend, all!

You mean just a reinstall of IE6? Also, have you had problems with XP SP1a? I haven't installed it, yet... heard it was a bugger.

    Thanks.

    Avant problems redux

    How DEE:

I rebuilt IE as recommended and it seems to have stopped the crashing problem with Avant Browser. However, I notice that Avant uses about 10 more megs of RAM than IE when running. I'm not sure why, but that's kind of ridiculous. Could it be the popup blocker, or is Avant running adware? I don't find any adware that seems associated with Avant, but something is sure eating up RAM.

Anyone know another good (free) browser or IE overlay that has a nice popup blocker, by chance?

    Thanks, again, in advance.

Ah well, fixed my problems the easy way... I installed Popup Manager as recommended by 90046 in another thread related to popup blockers. It seems to be a nice little app and, like 90046 said, it's configurable, which is nice.

Back in the land of IE. I love uninstalling programs.... muahaha...
