Avast and Malwarebytes OK together?

Is it safe to have Avast free antivirus and Malwarebytes functioning at the same time, or will they interfere with each other? I was told Malwarebytes does not remove viruses, but I had begun using it solo when I got tired of McAfee never finding or fixing anything that MWBytes seemed to easily remove.

Will Avast and MWbytes cause problems together?

 

I have had Avast and MBAM running on two computers for some time. They seem to run fine, but I would be interested in hearing what the forum administrators have to say.

In addition to MBAM and SAS, I also keep WinPatrol and SpywareBlaster going.

 

Im using a Win XP and have had MWBytes running (paid version) for a couple years. Because of the end of support for Win Defender this past April I bought the Internet Security package from Avast - when it ran a system boot scan, which too all day to complete, it found at least 4 infected files - so MWBytes wasn't catching everything.

Should I disable Win Defender now that it is showing red and unable to update itself and if so how do I disable Win Defender?
