Avast Blocks Installation Of Divx 10. Help Please?

    In attempting to install DivX 10, Avast sounded a virus or malicious file warning and blocked the installation.

    The file is required by a popular free movie site that was recommended by friends.

    I may have my security set to high but I don't know how to change those settings.

    SOLVED!

    DivX 10 Support provided a stand alone installer which seems to have solved the problem. At least it plays nice with Avast. Haven't actually tried a movie yet. We'll see!

    NOT RESOLVED!

    It appears that the stand alone installer did, in fact, install DivX 10 but the display only shows a dim, faded DivX 10 logo in the small display. Must I have a video loaded?

    Although DivX 10 has been scanned before, you could just upload your copy of the installer to VirusTotal for analysis, then you will know how to proceed further.

    I got DivX 10 installed (after several attempts) and I'm now squattin' in your basic tall cotton. You are welcome to move this thread if you don't think it would benefit others. I honestly don't know what caused the install problem but the alternate installer finally succeeded.

    Where do I insert my dime?

    Contact them again and don't attempt to install any software that you cannot complete a virus scan on. I suspect file corruption.

    I'll try again now. I believe I got an error code they may want, not sure. It took a long time (15+ minutes) of no screen activity before error code appeared.

    I guess this is progress, I get to a new screen on the movie site before it locked up.

    When Edison was asked about progress on his light bulb he said: "Progress? Yes, we now know thousands of things that WON'T work!"

    Please confine your replies to this thread's subject. You have over-come the difficulties in getting Divx 10 installed because of your AV software. If it's not working to your satisfaction, that is a software issue and not a topic for this forum.

    I have given you several avenues to pursue -
    • If Avast is giving a false-positive
    • Scanning the installer with multiple AV engines
    • Advise checking for file corruption
    • Suggesting the proper forum for software issues.
