Hello, I have Avast free antivirus installed. Last update attempt failed. Error message "Invalid file signature" (free translation because my avast is in french). I tried uninstalling and reinstalling latest version from avast website, but when performing initial signature update, same message appears again. Is it a software problem or should I check for malware?

    Thanks.

Indeed. Thanks. Is there a better antivirus than avast which is free and which is not a computer ressource monster?

I use Microsoft Security Essentials, so does my IT instructor and I haven't had a problem with it. Outside of human error.

My Mom had the same problem updating Avast. I uninstalled the software and installed Super Antispyware and Microsoft Security Essentials. Her computer is running just fine now. Hope this helps!

I saw that error come up last night, as Avast! updates multiple times per day, it's not a big issue, when I checked again @ 2 hours later it had already updated correctly.

Normally, Avast free updates about twice daily and in the default settings it looks for updates every 4 hours.
Not that fast here though as the issue was fixed only less than an hour prior to my previous post? :confused

Hello, AVast indeed solved the issued throught an auto update, I guess because everything is back in order. I will definitely have a look at Security essentials though. Thanks for the support.
